Raider Update
December 4, 2022
Message from the Superintendent
Good afternoon Raider families,
We are two weeks out from winter break! This is a great time of year to check in with students about how school is going for them. Do they feel connected? Are there things that seem to be overly stressful? What concerns do they have? Are there plans for staying connected with friends over the break? These may be easier with the younger students, but for those with students in middle and high school, it's important that we keep them engaged in the conversation. If you find that your student is struggling academically, socially, or with their mental health, please reach out to your school administration or counseling department. We have additional staff who can help with suggestions and strategies or provide information about who to connect with outside of school for additional support.
If you're looking for some evening entertainment, this coming week is filled with middle school and high school music concerts, as well as High School Swimming, Basketball, and Hockey.
Have a great week!
Bob McDowell, Ed.D.

Hastings Public Schools Receives Clean Audit
The Hastings School Board approved the results of the 2022 fiscal year audit report at its meeting on November 22. The district's accounting firm, MMKR, issued an unmodified opinion, which is the best opinion it can give. Audits are one part of our work to be good stewards of our taxpayers dollars – and provide a measure of transparency and accountability. We are proud to have received this clean audit.
2023-2024 Kindergarten Registration
Information for registering your 2023-24 kindergartener will be mailed out in early January. Additional information regarding an opportunity to visit our school and meet kindergarten teachers will also be included in that mailing.
Free Dakota County Vaccine Clinics
Dakota County is offering two free vaccine clinics on December 15 and December 29. Respiratory illnesses, such as influenza (flu), Covid, and respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) are affecting our
schools and communities. Hospitalizations continue at concerning levels and are at higher numbers than during the peak of the pandemic. You can help our school and community by making sure you are
vaccinated for flu and Covid. One of the best ways to protect yourself and your loved ones is to get
vaccinated. This is especially important with upcoming holiday gatherings.
Dakota County Public Health is offering 2 free vaccine clinics. Walk-ins are welcome, but registrations
are preferred. The clinic dates and times are:
Thursday, December 15 at Dakota County Western Service Center, Apple Valley 12:30–5:30 p.m.
Thursday, December 29 at Dakota County Northern Service Center, West St. Paul 12:30–5:30 p.m.
Please share the flyer below with your friends and families.
