Principal's Message

Kia ora e te whānau,

Welcome back! It sounds like many of you had a lovely holiday break, either exploring our beautiful country, travelling overseas, or having a 'staycation.'

We had the privilege of NED visiting our school on Monday morning. The inspiring messages shared with us align very much with our own Hautapu Vision and Values. NED stands for:

● Never give up

● Encourage others

● Do your best

Some key messages shared with our school were:

  1. We often tell ourselves that "If it isn't easy, it isn't worth trying." However, NED explained that this is our Brain Freeze moment and encouraged students to push through these challenges and embrace the opportunity for growth and learning.
  2. Train your brain to get into Go Brain Grow mode… instead of saying "I can't do it," children are encouraged to say "I can't do it yet." This simple shift in mindset opens the door to possibilities and continuous improvement.
  3. "I can do more than what I thought I could, but only if I keep taking the next step." Children are encouraged to learn that progress often comes in small steps. By consistently challenging themselves and taking one step at a time, they can achieve things beyond their initial expectations.
  4. "Each person has their own Mt. Everest." This recognizes that everyone faces unique challenges and goals in life, much like climbing their own personal Mt. Everest. Each individual's journey is valuable and deserving of respect and encouragement.
  5. "With encouragement, we can all find the treasure within ourselves and each other." We all need to celebrate the uniqueness and worth of every individual. Encouragement and support from others help us discover the hidden treasures within ourselves and others, making the world a brighter place.
  6. "Let go of 'I know' so you can grow." Letting go of the belief that one already knows everything allows room for new ideas, skills, and knowledge to flourish.

With a growth mindset and utilising the Hautapu Values, our children can cultivate resilience, empathy, and a positive outlook on life. Together, it’s our responsibility to encourage them to face challenges with determination, support others in their journeys, and recognise the incredible treasure within themselves and their peers.

Ngaa manaakitanga ❘ With best wishes

Tracey
