Helpful Study Tips for History Students
A student’s academic success highly depends on his/her study skills and comprehension capabilities. Since students dedicate on average four to six hours per day reading and grasping information, here are some study tips that will help EA students become better, independent learners.
- Become a Vigilant Reader: To become a better reader, make sure that you keep your mind from wandering off into the nebulous. Always keep yourself focused and in tune with the lesson. Being a vigilant reader certainly pays off because your daily assignments and quizzes are directly based on the lessons. Reading helps you learn new subjects, as well as advance your vocabulary skills.
- Sleep Well: A good night's sleep will alleviate stress and will enhance your motivation for learning. So, don’t neglect to sleep at least for eight hours a night.
- Time Management: Commit at least five to six hours to studying each day. Controlling your time wisely is critical to your academic success and overall performance.
- Minimize Distractions: Don’t underestimate how much time trivial distractions could add to your workload. Find a quiet space where noise levels can be subsided to the minimum.
- Be Inquisitive: Always ask good questions about the topic. Thinking through each lesson will engrave the themes learned into your memory bank. Once, someone said: “It’s more important to ask good questions than to have the right answers.”
- Take Helpful Notes: Mark the pages which are either difficult to comprehend or vague in meaning. I'd highly encourage students to use Cornell notes, which have a more structured outline. Study notes are a lifeline on your exams.
- Ask for Help: Please always feel free to reach out for help or assistance if a particular lesson is tough or if you are in need of additional resources.
Classroom Expectations
Here is a link to our family handbook. It shares more about our school-wide expectations for families.
- Though I believe that you'll enjoy reading most of your lessons, some of them might seem just a bit more challenging than others; nonetheless, always try to do your best and never give up!
Reach Out for Support:
- If you feel like you've hit a snag and just can't move on, certainly don't hesitate to reach out. Please remember that we're here to help you learn and to achieve your highest potential.
Don't Take "Shortcuts":
- Reading and responding to prompts and assignment questions might become cumbersome at times, but it's well worth it and the benefits you'll reap will be rewarding indeed. If you feel like there's a question that you're having a hard time grasping, please reach out instead of taking a shortcut and "Googling it." I'm happy to go over that particular question with you.

Absence Policy
If your student is planning on being absent, we ask that your student works ahead on their due dates in Ignitia or catches up on work once they return.
If your student is going to be absent for more than 3 days, you can submit this absence form so that the Progress Department is aware of your situation. We still ask that your student works ahead or catches up after any absences.
Please feel free to email progress@enlightiumacademy.com if you have any questions.
