Sentence Surgery
Several second grade classes performed surgery on sentences recently.
They practiced writing stronger sentences using better adjectives and adverbs.
These students are operating on their skills to better
equip them for a scalpel-sharp future.
HGES Morning Show
Included are school announcements, the menu for the day, joke of the day, fun fact of the day, along with Leader in Me habits and quotes for the day. Students take these tasks seriously and do a superb job!
Club Day!
Clubs provide enrichment opportunities to all students that explore topics not regularly covered in the classroom. These would include art, music, science, STEM, math, coding, and numerous other topics. It’s one of our favorite days each nine weeks!

Jessica Heard was awarded a $1,000 scholarship from Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated Delta Omega Zeta Chapter during the Finer Womanhood Program in addition to the Youth Hall of Fame Induction. Congratulations, Jessica!

MCHS students Gracie Dean, Sarah Wright, and Kylie Johnson, helped make the Easter season memorable for some local children. These young ladies left Easter eggs and fun surprises in some lawns in our community.
Washington, D.C. Trip
Off on an adventure to Washington, D.C.! Several 5th Grade students and Social Studies teacher, Mrs. Connie Bradford, spent several days during Spring Break exploring our nation’s capital city.
Their journey took them to the Capitol, White House, Lincoln Memorial, Washington Monument, Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial, Korean, Vietnam, and WWII memorials, national museums, and Gettysburg National Military Park. What a great way to enjoy traveling with friends and seeing history in present time!
Let's Pretend Hospital
First Grade students took a field trip to UAH sponsored “Let’s Pretend Hospital”. Medical professionals brought to life how a hospital provides a valuable service to those who are ill or in need of help. Who knows? Many of our students may become inspired to serve others in medical occupations in our community one day.

Harvest NEHS raised $225.00 for the Ark Animal Shelter. K - 2nd grade teachers played against NEHS students in the first game. Our 3rd - 5th grade teachers played against NEHS students in the second game.

Alabama Science Olympiad- State Finals
On Saturday March 31 The MMS Science Hawks travelled to Auburn University to compete in the Alabama Science Olympiad State Finals. Currently Monrovia unofficially sits in 6th Place at State with several students winning medals at the competition.
The MMS Science Olympiad team took home several medals including Silver in Mystery Architecture, Bronze in Hovercraft and Disease Detectives, Copper in Battery Buggy. Overall MMS Either Won a Medal or Placed in 17 of 23 Events.

Lauryn Hall
Lauryn is a member of the National Honor Society, is an AAU All-American, USATF All-American, 4-Time State Champion, 2-Time AAU & USATF Regional Champion, and a Wendy's Heisman State Finalist. She will attending college at the University of North Carolina.
Florida State Relays
Congratulations to Sparkman Track and Field team members Lauryn Hall (Sr)
and Charles Lewis (Jr) on their performance at the FSU Relays this past
weekend at Florida State University. Athletes attending this event had to
meet specific qualifying standards, Lauryn and Charles met those standards
in the 100m and 200m distances.
Lauryn finished SECOND in the 100m missing the gold by only .07 seconds
and THIRD in the 200m, less than 1 second behind first. Charles finished
in THIRD in the 100m, while setting a new Personal Best, less than 1
second behind first and in SECOND in the 200m behind first place by under
.2 seconds.
Great job representing the Senators at FSU.
Sparkman Softball
Blue Water and MPRA players at Senator Field this week. Our future Senators enjoyed meeting all the players, being on the field, and getting autographs after the game.
ACT 30+ club
Buckhorn Choirs
The Buckhorn Middle School Choir received an overall superior rating at their very first SCPA! They were only one point shy of straight superior ratings! Ms. Jones is also super proud of the sight-reading done by every choir. Out of 88 points possible, the BMS, Concert, and Chamber Choirs received scores of 85, 86, and 87, respectively. Moreover, the students represented Buckhorn with exceptional behavior and class. We are so proud of these guys and girls! Congratulations!

Buckhorn senior guard, Sarah Suttle, is racking up the basketball honors. In the last couple of weeks she has been selected for the First Team of the 7A All-State girls high school basketball team, the All-Huntsville Region girls high school basketball team and is one of three finalists for the 7A 2018 Miss Basketball award! The winners will be crowned on April 10 in Montgomery at the annual ASWA Player of the Year banquet, presented by ALFA. Congratulations and good luck Sarah! Picture Credit: Eric Schultz, al.com

The Team overall standing is 5th out of 7 Division 1 teams. There are a total of 28 teams at the race venue which make up the field and they compete on an individual level with all riders from all teams.
More of the BHS racers have yet to compete. They have several riders who will be racing in the Space Race at the Space and Rocket Center on the 29th of April - so be sure to come out and cheer on all our riders!!!

BMS Scholars' Bowl
BMS Scholars' Bowl had a great first experience with the US Academic Bee and Bowl at East Lawrence Middle School. Our team qualified for the National Bowl and Flynn Jacobs qualified for the National Bee.
Mrs. Darnell wins grant for iPads!
Congratulations to Mrs. Amanda Darnell, second grade teacher, for writing a grant proposal on how she can utilize four more iPads in her classroom to benefit her students, and being selected as the winner!

Plant Observations
Mrs. Owen’s third graders worked with our Madison County Schools STEM coach, Jessica Williamson, and observed three generations of plants to try to understand why they have different stem colors.

Thank you to the Madison County Children’s Book Project for collecting and donating books for our Pre-K students to pick out and take home over the break! Our Pre-K students had fun picking out their own books to read with their families!
