The Final Countdown
8th Grade Graduation
We are swiftly moving into the final weeks of middle school for all of our 8th graders. As we prepare to celebrate all of their accomplishments and get ready to send them off to high school, here is a snapshot of what the final days will look like:
Wednesday, May 11 (8am-2pm)
The 8th grade teachers and students will hear the finalists for the 2022 Graduation Speech. One speaker will be chosen to share their speech at the graduation ceremony.
Thursday, May 26 (8am-3pm)
Students will attend Encore classes and then head to the gym for graduation practice, class pictures, gown and ticket distribution and D109 device collection. Dismissal is at 3pm.
Friday, May 27 (8am-3pm)
Students will attend our building awards assembly and then head off on their class trip to ParKing.

The afternoon will include lunch, yearbook distribution and team activities (students will be given time to sign yearbooks).
Tuesday, May 31 (8am-10am)
Students will gather in the gym for final preparations for the graduation ceremony. Upon completion, 8th graders will be dismissed from school. A bus will be available for any students who require transportation home (Bus will leave SMS at 10am).
Tuesday, May 31 (7:30pm Ceremony)
Graduates should be dropped off at the Athletics Entry Doors at Deerfield High School at 6:45pm.
Families will need to wait to enter the building/auditorium until the Caruso Middle School ceremony has dismissed. Doors will likely open for SMS ticket-holders at 7:00pm. Families will enter the building at the Athletics Entry Doors and head to the auditorium.
**The ceremony will conclude no later than 8:30pm**
Friday, June 3 (A Shepard Tradition)
The 8th Grade Graduate Car Parade at 12:30-12:45pm
This fun celebration has become a tradition at SMS as we encourage our graduates and their families to make signs, decorate your cars and take "One Last Lap" through the Shepard parking lot. The entire group of teachers and staff will be outside to celebrate and wave good bye and good luck to the incoming freshman class.
