A religious and philosophical movement that developed during the late 1820s and '30s in the Eastern region of the United States as a protest against the general state of spirituality
Utopian Movement
More than 100,000 individuals formed utopian communities in an effort to create perfect societies. The years 1820 to 1860 saw the great success of this movement with the creation of numerous communities.
Brook Farm Community
The Brook Farm was an experiment of the Utopian Movement in communal living. It was founded by former Unitarian minister George Ripley and his wife Sophia Ripley at the Ellis Farm in Roxbury, MA in 1841. The Brook Farm was a transcendentalism and intellectual haven, but they only laster five years.

Noah Webster was an American lexicographer, textbook pioneer, English-spelling reformer. political writer, editor, and prolific author. He has been called "Father of American Scholarship and Education".
Nathaniel Hawthorne
Nathaniel Hawthorne was an American novel and short story writer. He was born in 1804 in Salem, Massachusetts to Nathaniel Hawthorne and the former Elizabeth Clarke Manning.
Edgar Allan Poe
Edgar Poe was an American author, poet, editor, and literary critic. He was considered part of the Romantic movement. Poe was one of the earliest American practitioners of the short story, and is considered the inventor of the detective fiction genre.
