Plano Middle School Weekly Update

Monday, December 5th - Friday, December 9th

MAP Testing

This week students will complete the Measures of Academic Progress (MAP) test in their Math and Language Arts classes. MAP Testing is completed 3 times per year (August, December, and May). Assessment results are used to measures students' academic growth throughout the year, and to inform instructional planning decisions. Results of the Winter tests will be sent home with Students the first week of second semester in January.

Smile Program

Parents did you know that you have the opportunity to help your students get the dental care they deserve to keep them healthy and in the classroom?

An in-school dentist will be coming to Plano in early February!

Dental forms will be distributed to all students through Advisory Teachers on Friday, December 2nd and are to be turned in by Friday, December 9th! If you are interested in this service please ask your student for the form. If you have any questions about the program please contact the school nurse, Marcie Sej, at 630-552-3608 or msej@plano88.org

Toy and Clothing Drive

The National Honor Society of Plano High School is sponsoring a Toy and Clothing collection drive. They are collecting new unwrapped toys and/or new or slightly worn clothing to be distributed to local children during the holiday season. A drop box is located at Plano MS if you have any items you would like to donate.

INCLEMENT WEATHER INFORMATION / E-LEARNING DAYS

On inclement weather days, the safety of our staff and students is the most important consideration. When in-person attendance is not safe or during hazardous weather, the Plano School District will be utilizing E-Learning Days instead of “snow days.” E-Learning Days do not extend the school year calendar, but conventional snow days require additional days to be added to the end of the school year calendar.

Plano Middle School teachers will post lessons and learning activities by 9 am. This information will be accessible through class Schoology pages after 9 am. Teachers will be available through email between 9 am and noon to answer any questions and provide any clarifying instruction.

The Technology Help Desk is available to all Plano School District students. Please contact the Tech Hotline at 630/552-3178, extension 7557, if you are experiencing issues with your Chromebook. Please note that the Tech Department cannot support WiFi connectivity issues in your home or personal devices.

On inclement weather days, all buildings will be closed to provide staff time to clear the lots and sidewalks and check on the school’s mechanical systems. Practices and games will be canceled and rescheduled dates will be announced as soon as possible. E-Learning Day messages, and information about when in-person classes will resume, will be sent via email, text and posted on the district website and social media outlets. Please check your PowerSchool account to make sure your email addresses and phone numbers are correct. While you are there, check to make sure your home mailing address is up-to-date.

Remember, safety is key, so please be cautious and patient when the weather takes a turn for the worse.

Informational Reminders

How and Where do I check my students Grades?

Schoology is used as our active gradebook. To check your student's grades on a daily or weekly basis make sure you have an active Schoology account and have access to see your student's classes, assignments and grades. PowerSchool gradebook is updated for mid term and end of term grade reporting, but it is not the go to to check in on daily progress. If you do not have a Schoology account see the links below to set one up. When setting up your account if you need an access code please email your students Advisory teacher for the code or call the main office.

If your student is absent due to illness or other reasons:

To stay up to date with class work, students should check Schoology pages daily to access assignments, lessons, and activities during their absence. Contact teachers directly via email with any questions related to school work.
