Community for Kids

Dear Stanley Families:

We are excited to offer a great community resource through our partnership with Community for Kids.

Community for Kids is a local non-profit organization that has the mission “to alleviate food insecurity for students in the Blue Valley Community by providing weekend food packs”.

Here’s how it works: if your family chooses to participate in the program you sign up by emailing Kaitlyn Dobratz, School Social Worker at Stanley Elementary. Then, each week any child in your family ages pre-school through middle school is eligible to receive a weekend food pack throughout the school year. There is no cost to participate in the program and participation is voluntary. Community for Kids and Blue Valley are currently working out the details to deliver the packs each week to the school.

If you would like your family to participate in the weekend food pack program, please notify Mrs. Dobratz via email (kdobratz@bluevalleyk12.org) or by calling Mrs. Dobratz at 913-239-7223.

Stanley Yearbook

Hello Stanley Families,

The deadline to order this year's yearbook is May 5th! Yearbooks are ordered through TreeRing.com. The price is $20.88. You can purchase HERE.

With your yearbook purchase, you can customize two pages for FREE. This is optional, but is a great way to include specific memories for your student. If you plan to customize pages, please have those completed by the May 5th purchase deadline.

Similar to last year, this year's yearbooks will not be available until this summer. (Estimated delivery is June 23rd.) This way we can include end-of-school-year events in the yearbook.

If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to Mindy Doyle at mindy.hodson@gmail.com.

Attendance Reporting and Notifications

Families can expect automated attendance messages by email, phone, and text if a child is absent and their absence has not already been reported by a parent/guardian. It is the responsibility of the parent/guardian to report an absence or reply to the automated email or phone message.

What is the purpose of attendance notifications?

We realize that students may occasionally need to miss school for planned absences, illnesses, and appointments. However, when a student does not arrive at school or unexpectedly misses a portion of the school day, we are concerned and want to make sure you are aware that your child is absent.

How can I get push notifications?

Families who would also like a push notification can download the ParentVUE app and manage their notifications. If a child has an unreported absence when a teacher submits attendance, then a push notification will immediately be sent to the parent/guardian's mobile device.

Interested in push notifications? Simply download the ParentVUE app (iTunes app store or Google Play), enable push notifications in device settings and select attendance notifications through in-app settings. Once the app is downloaded, these instructions will help you complete the set-up.

ScrapsKC

Blue Valley is working with ScrapsKC to collect materials for their store. If you have not been to ScrapsKC, it is a supply store that focuses on the importance of reusing materials while giving those who are homeless employment.

There is a bin outside of the art room for donated materials. ScrapsKC is looking for…

- Scissors

- Chalk/crayons/pens/pencils/colored pencils

- Index cards/post-its

- Spiral notebooks/folders

- Pencil boxes

- Art/craft supplies

Remember, these are materials from your house that you are no longer using — the purpose is reuse.

Bad Weather Dismissal Protocol

When there is a change of weather during dismissal time, there may be a slight delay in the release of our students.

When we are experiencing heavy rains in the area, the following dismissal procedures will be followed.

Car riders will be dismissed as normal, however, it may take a little longer to load our students into the car.

Bus riders will be loaded a bus at a time.

Walkers/Bikers: **** Biggest change*** We know that some of our students have quite a distance to walk in the afternoons and the safety of our students is of the utmost importance. Parents are able to make a change to a student's mode of dismissal by contacting the front office by phone at 913-239-7200..

Student Personal Devices in Elementary School

Cell Phone and Associated Personal Technology Guideline: In an effort to provide the most effective learning spaces possible, the following guidelines are in effect concerning personal cell phones and associated personal technology devices (CP/PTD) at the elementary school level: CP/PTDs are defined as any device designed for personal communication, digital information transfer, or electronic gaming/play.

Should the need arise for a student to contact parents during the school day the main office phone or the classroom phone should be used for such a call. Should the need arise for parents to contact their child, the main office phone should be used for such a call. CP/PTDs may be used by the student only at the request of the classroom teacher or other staff member. CP/PTDs used to monitor identified student health needs such as blood sugar levels are allowed and must be approved by the principal.

Nut-Safer Snacks at Stanley

Daily Snacks: Thank you for your support of our nut-safer snack plan at Stanley. As a reminder: we ask that ALL daily snacks (i.e. snack time) for ALL students must come from the nut-safer food list as we have a significant number of students with life-threatening nut allergies. (click below for the link) Our continued focus this year, as an entire school, is to remain consistent on the daily snacks for student snack time in the classrooms—following the nut-safer list.

Please click HERE to access the Nut-Safer food list.
