The Odyssey
November 18, 2022
From the Principal
MQSCA Families-
Wow, winter came early. Just a couple of important reminders as we now have freezing and in-climate conditions. All students will go outside for fresh air as often as we can. For grades K3-3rd will stay inside if the wind-chill drops below 15 degrees. For students 4th grade and above, we will use 0 degrees or below wind-chill as our marker. As always, staff will use best judgement if it is extremely windy, snowing heavily, or other extreme conditions to keep students in the building.
It is then important that all students come to school with proper attire. We often find students huddling together because they do not have proper winter coats at school. Hooded sweatshirts are not coats, and if a brisk breeze is present, sweatshirts, sweaters, light wind breakers, etc. do not protect students from the elements. We encourage families to send extra clothing to store in lockers, especially for the younger grades. Students will not be allowed to play in the snow if they do not have proper dress, boots, snow pants, hats, gloves, etc. This will be effective starting from Monday November 21, 2022.
Lastly, throwing snow is a safety risk. I have seen too many times a student throwing snow at another student that contained an ice chunk within, which caused serious injury to another student. We love snow, however, it cannot be thrown. If we interpret the snow to be a safety risk we will ask students to not pick it up at all. Again, this is because once snow is on the ground, we don't know what is under it, or what it contains.
In Christ-
Mr. Lee

Safe Enviroment Training
In order to be involved in any school activities, including chaperoning a field trip, coaching a sport, or volunteering in a classroom, you have to be safe environment trained. Below is the link to register for a training. No exceptions will be made, it is an archdiocesan mandate. If you plan to volunteer now, or in the future in any way, you MUST have attended a safe environment training. Please reach out to Bryanna Hill if you have questions about safe environment training, if you need to be trained, or if a new background check needs to be conducted. If you think you have been in safe environment training in the past, but are unsure, please double check.
Volunteers Needed
Here is the volunteer form. Please take a moment to fill it out if you have not yet. We still have many spaces available to help volunteer at different event in our school through out the year.
I have some community members that have already showed interest in supporting the school for a beer and wine tasting fundraising effort. We have an opportunity to make this one night be an opportunity to raise money for our school for a playground and much needed fencing. Please consider volunteering for this event so we can start the planning process.
Safety in the Parking Lot for drop off and pick up
Please make sure that you follow the MQSCA parking lot rules. We have a 5 mph speed limit in the parking lot.
Here are a couple of things to consider:
- You never know when a child will step out from a car, and our littlest friends often are hid by the car.
- Your time is not more valuable than anyone else's and we all run late, however that cannot be a reason to speed through the parking lot.
- Please follow the morning drop off and afternoon pick up procedures.
- Park in a designated parking spot when picking up. Lining up in the aisles, or along building blocking traffic flow and preventing cars to exit in a timely fashion.
