WE'RE GOING TO THE MOVIES! SAVE THE DATE!
This book is simply amazing. It has captivated our students and they are invested in this novel that we read daily together. The teachable moments that present themselves through this time together each day are priceless and we can't wait to keep reading!
It just so happens that this book is now on the big screen and will be opening in just a little over a month! We thought what a great way to end our reading with the movie! We have reserved a theater at Bay Park Marcus Cinema on 11/20/17 for just FG 4th graders and their families to watch the newly released movie production of the book.
The movie will start at 5:30 p.m. Tickets must be purchased in advance....
(More info coming early next week!)
I scream, you scream, we all scream for ice cream!
Be sure to check out our ZavTop Classroom Facebook page for highlights of the field trip yesterday!
Reading: This week our focus skill was on plot and developing a story arc for our narratives. We are using familiar realistic fiction picture books to help us identify story plots and also see how authors develop conflict/problems in their writing.
Math: We are wrapping our Place Value and will be digging in to our Multiplication Unit! Please watch for the unit 1 assessment to be coming home in the next few days!
**We're making math more personalized to meet each child where he/she is at! Stay tuned for updates regarding our groups and structure! We're making our learning environment even more exciting!
Writing: This week we continued to develop our "seed" stories and began talking about problems in realistic fiction. Students came up with 2 different story arcs for their piece (different directions they could take their story) and next week we will be continuing our draft as we focus on the different elements of a realistic fiction piece.
WtW: Our spelling program is called "Words their Way" which is an approach to spelling that emphasizes patterns and spelling rules in a sorting routine. This week we practiced our sort routines with everyone using the same sort. On Monday, be on the look out for your child's first group sort to study for the week!
S.S. We identified the "idea" that each partner group will be taking through the bill to law process. (Thank you to parents that helped their child think outside of the box with these!) Stay tuned for more info next week on the expectations and ways to help your child practice the process at home!
