Hooch Happenings
December 9, 2022
Todd's Tidbits
Hooch Community,
As we come to the end of the 1st semester, I wanted to be sure to review several items.
- Exam week – Please closely review the schedule that is linked below and be reminded that ONLY students that need to recover a grade will report on Friday.
- Alumni Scholarship – We have had several Hooch Alum that have founded a scholarship fund for our Hooch Seniors.
- Every student deserves the opportunity to attend college– independent of their personal financial health. The Chattahoochee High School (CHS) Scholarship was created by alumni to help students cover a portion of costs associated with attending college. To be eligible for this scholarship, you must be a current high school senior at Chattahoochee High School who plans to attend college. To apply, please write a short essay (400 words or less) addressing “What does this scholarship money mean to you?” Applications close March 14, 2023. Winners will be notified by March 31, 2023.
- Apply at: https://bold.org/scholarships/chs-scholarship/
- School Governance Flag Project – Our very rich diversity is a special piece to the Hooch Family. If you had ever visited our Cafeteria, you would have seen the large number of countries that represented our families and staff through the multitude of national flags hanging around the perimeter. School Governance Committee (SGC) is asking for the Hooch school community’s support in refreshing the many country flags that had been in our cafeteria since the mid to late 1990’s. More details will be coming as soon as we return in January.
All the best,
Dr. Mike Todd
Principal
Showing up Matters for R.E.A.L.
Students succeed when educators and families work together as equal partners. Building strong relationships are essential to the success of any thriving community. Did you know that Showing up Matters for R.E.A.L. not only for academic success, but school also offers an opportunity to develop social and emotional skills such as listening, paying attention, problem-solving and self-regulation, all which are needed to grow and learn. Let’s work together to build a strong community of talented young people who are committed to learning and growing emotionally into responsible adults.
Last Week Exams Schedules
During the last week of each semester, teachers will administer their last assignment of the semester during the designated times for each class period on the "Last Week Exams Schedule" available HERE.
- For first semester, these exams run from Tuesday Dec 13 through Thursday Dec 15, 2022
- Friday Dec 16, 2022 is a RECOVERY DAY. Students only report if they arrange individually with a specific teacher to complete recovery on a “last week exam” or if they arrange other make-up work due to extenuating circumstances.
- Wednesday Dec 14, Thursday Dec 15, and Friday Dec 16 will be half-days for students with busses departing around 12:30pm
- Students are expected to be in attendance and exams may not be taken early. Any student who misses their "Last Week Exam" will need to make-up missed exams in January (either on the Jan 3rd teacher work day -or- on Saturday Jan 7th from 8am to 11am)
- Depending on the course, these exams will be entered into the gradebook and count as either one major or one minor assignment - there is not a separate grading category for last week exams
- Questions? Please reach out directly to your child's teachers or to your child's administrator.
Media Center-All About Student Laptops
- As students prepare to leave for the holiday break, please be sure to take all school-issued laptops and chargers home.
- During the break, be sure to power on the laptops and check to run windows updates. Please watch this tutorial on how to access the Windows updates page (https://youtu.be/0b3oo9uzgcQ).
- If your students are not using their school-issued laptops over the break, be sure to properly shut the laptops down. Please watch this tutorial on how to properly shut down a laptop (https://youtu.be/4VxPF3xXnqw).
Counseling Corner
The counselors are wrapping up Junior Advisement meetings, and students whose parents/guardians didn’t schedule a meeting will be called in to meet with their counselor individually. Students will be given a copy of their graduation status report to bring home to share with their parents. All Juniors are responsible for completing the required Naviance tasks. More information can be found at https://www.fultonschools.org/Page/26071.
Seniors applying to colleges for the early January 2023 deadlines should have already completed the following:
- In Naviance, add the college to their Colleges I’m Applying To list and submit a transcript request.
- If applicable, match their Common App account with Naviance and complete the FERPA waiver (click on any college in Common App, then click the Recommenders and FERPA tab). Their colleges will then populate in Colleges I’m Applying To in Naviance.
- If applying to a college that requires a counselor form or letter, upload their completed Senior Profile in their Counselor’s Class of 2023 Teams.
Students must complete these steps at least 10 school days - not including weekends, holidays, or school breaks - prior to the college deadline. Videos and guides for various parts of Naviance can be found at https://www.fultonschools.org/Page/19744.
Any students who have issues with their Spring semester schedules should stop by the Counseling Office and speak with their Counselor.
