It is with great pride that I share with you that Saint Paschal Baylon Catholic School was recognized at the last diocesan principals' meeting as 1 of 20 schools in the Diocese of Cleveland that showed HIGH ACHIEVEMENT AND HIGH GROWTH on ALL MAP tests (Mathematics, Reading, Language Usage, and Science) for the winter testing session. Our teachers and students have made a concerted effort to set individual or class goals in each subject and create action plans to achieve those goals. Well done!
This Saturday, April 6 is a very busy day for many of our students! My goal is to make it to as many of these events as possible to cheer on our students. We have various teams from K-8 participating in nine different events in the diocesan X-STREAM Games at Holy Name High School. Over 600 students from across the diocese are expected to be there. Our fifth and sixth grade Science Olympiad team will be competing at John Carroll University. We have nearly 50 SPB students ready to test their scientific skills against those from other diocesan schools. Finally, our seventh and eighth grade Power of the Pen teams are joining other writers from across the area for the regional event to be held at Villa Angela-St. Joseph High School. Eight of our twelve students advanced to regionals and are ready to showcase their writing talents. It is impressive to think about the opportunities that are available to our students and how many are actively involved in academic activities. Good luck to all of our Green Knights, and thank you to the many teachers, parents, and coaches involved with helping to make these opportunities possible!
Sincerely,
Diane Raguz
Principal

Playground/Lunchroom Supervision-Primary Grades
The links to sign up for playground/lunchroom supervision for parents/guardians of students in grade 1 and Kindergarten for the remainder of the school year are now live!
We are asking that each family (mom, dad, grandma, etc.) choose at least two days to volunteer each time slot being 11:00-1:00. Grade 1 Parents, April is a short month because of Easter Break, and there are still quite a few spots open! Please try to fill up those days! We are so grateful for the help!
This is a great way for you to interact with your child and his/her classmates during the school day! Lunch/Recess Volunteers should arrive to school at 11:00 and check in at the office. Duties will include supervising students at recess, escorting students to the cafeteria from recess, and supervising in the cafeteria. Volunteers will be with one teacher and two "core" volunteers each day to help direct. Remember that after your two volunteer time slots, you are done for the year, as each month is assigned to a different grade.
Thank you again for your time and service to the students and teachers of SPB! Simply click on the grade level link to pick a time convenient for you: Grade 1 or Kindergarten.
Our sincere thanks to the following Grade 2 parents (and others) who were able to volunteer during the month of March:
Mrs. Jaime Mance, Mrs. Gina Quagliata, Mrs. Megan Baco, Mr. Matthew Murphy, Mrs. Kelly Monaghan, Mrs. Beth Juelich Velotta, Mrs. Erica Majernik, Mr. Fred Mance, Mrs. Maria Patyk, Mrs. Jackie Slife, Mrs. Meghan Soriano, Mrs. Kelly Miller, Mrs. Sarah Reynoso, Mr. Jeremy Reynoso, Mrs. Chris Muttillo, Mr. Monica Bickar, Mr. Bryan Bickar, Mrs. Tammy Oley, Mrs. Ruth Pak, Mrs. Chris Garrett, Mrs. Kristie Krebs, Mrs. Iryna Yarovitskiy, Mrs. Caitlyn Kozelj, and Mrs. Carolee Doerner.
From the Pastor's Perspective...
Lent is rapidly coming along and soon we will be in April. This means it’s time to start thinking about the great celebrations for Holy Week and the Sacred Triduum. These “three holy days” are so important to our worship life. We can to be tempted to come up with excuses why we don’t attend Mass, or even these special days of celebration. Lent reminds us, through the Sacred Scripture texts, that even Christ was tempted NOT to worship God – and worship other things! Christ overcame that with putting the excuses aside and focusing on the commandment: worship God alone!
Christianity is a “team effort,” like a sport. We can’t worship without one another, especially Sunday to Sunday. As Saint Paul says, “Can I say to that part of the body, I don’t need you?” No – we need each other and need to support one another to worship together as the Body of Christ. We all have our parts to play – and we are at a point where we would like you to become more involved in the liturgies in the following ministries:
· greeters (Contact Tony Ward: music-liturgy@saintpaschal.com)
· Communion ministers (Contact George Zagar: zagarga@gmail.com)
· lectors (Contact John Schuster: johnschuster9@yahoo.com)
· and altar servers (Contact Kathryn Mailer: solonkat@yahoo.com)
Being involved helps one understand and participate in the Mass, just like being in a sport needs so many to be “part of the team.”
The “Super Bowl” of all liturgies is coming soon, as well as Palm Sunday – starting in the Eymard Room for the blessing of the palms. I invite you to take some special time with you and your family to participate in them. Let me name a few highlights that make these events special to us:
· Holy Thursday, April 18 – 9 a.m. Morning Prayer for all the students and parish, with a silent retreat lunch; that night, join us for a special potluck in the Eymard Room @ 5:30 p.m. – bring your favorite dish to share and sign up at the parish office: (440) 442-3410 or parishoffice@saintpaschal.com; the liturgy begins at 7:30 p.m. with the very moving foot washing ceremony (get a pedicure and plan on having your foot washed!) and the candle light procession; if you want to sneak away for some quiet prayer time between 9:30 p.m. & Midnight, join with us in the Saint Ann Shrine – park in the horseshoe lot of Wilson Mills.
· Good Friday, April 19 – 9 a.m. Morning Prayer; Noon Youth Group Live Stations followed by a soup supper; 3:00 p.m. service with the veneration of the cross or 7:30 p.m. is the repeat for those who work during this holy day.
· Easter Vigil, April 20 – 9 a.m. Morning Prayer; Noon Food Basket Blessing for Easter; 8:30 p.m. the “mother of all vigils,” with the special fire, procession with candles, bringing 12 people into the church, renewal of our baptism and the joys of celebrating Christ’s resurrection.
Like health care professionals, lawyers, athletes, dancers, musicians, who practice in these fields, we are called to “practice our faith” by worshiping together. If not at these events, I hope you’ll “get back on the bike,” and make a commitment to join with us in worshiping together as the Body of Christ on Sundays! WE MISS MANY OF YOU!
We are blessed with great liturgical ministers who sing, share their time and pray well. I look forward to seeing you for this special week and time, but most of all, it’s such a joy and blessing to be your pastor and worship with you Sunday after Sunday!
Thanks for your participation in the life of our parish – Eucharist, the source and summit of our lives, that we have to practice and practice to understand, deepen and grow with so that our faith comes more alive. Let us continue to pray for each other!
In Christ our Eucharist
Reverend John Thomas Lane, SSS
Pastor
PS – Who have you invited to come with you to worship with at SPB? Please do so and let’s introduce one another! I would really love that!
Capital Campaign Funds at Work
We are so grateful to all who are contributing to the "Forward in Faith, Hope & Love" capital campaign for parking lots and driveways! We have been able to break ground and begin work on the worst lot of our campus, the $75,600 piece of the parking lot near the Helping Hands/SSS Kitchen. (So many have fallen and hurt themselves - and safety of our volunteers is paramount).
As mentioned in our appeal, we have divided the project into sections, as we get the money, prioritizing them by need. As we raise the necessary funds, we will begin another section. The next section will be our horseshoe lot, for preschool drop off/Saint Ann Shrine/parish offices, then Blue Ribbon Way, followed by the main parking lot, and lastly, the convent drive and lot. The Highland Heights Fire Department and Planning and Zoning Commission demands we widen the horseshoe lot and bring it up to “fire access codes.”
You will receive a postcard in the mail this week reminding you each family is asked to donate $500 to reach our million-dollar goal. Please contribute to the project what you are able. If your family has been especially blessed financially, we thank you for sharing your gratitude back to God through an increased monetary gift to our wonderful parish.
Pray for our construction workers, the weather and for the completion of this lot in two weeks. Once we have enough funds, the next section will begin!

Serve as a Family: The Ministry of Greeters
We’re creating a new ministry at SPB, and it’s an opportunity for whole families to minister together! Greeters will welcome people at the church entrances, hand out Worship Guides, and be a friendly face when guests need direction and guidance. Also a great way to earn service hours. If you’d like to help get this new ministry off the ground, contact Tony at tony@saintpaschal.com.
