Knightly Update April 25, 2021
Edition Vol 9 Issue 36
It's spirit week! The final spirit week of the year takes place this week and with all the challenges this year brought to our students, their families, and our school, it's definitely time to celebrate all that we accomplished regardless of circumstances. I hope our students have some fun showing off their school spirit and enjoy the week with their friends. Have fun, Knights!
I am very excited to share that one of our seniors received the prestigious Flinn Scholar award. Congratulations to Ananya Lakhotia on being named a 2021 Flinn Scholar. Ananya is one of 20 students in the state of Arizona to be awarded this scholarship. You can learn more about the Flinn Scholarship and Ananya in our Knights in the Spotlight section. Very happy for you, Ananya. Congratulations!
As you aware, the mitigation processes that are currently in place will continue with the exemption of PE classes that take place outdoors. In this case, students may choose to wear their mask during outdoor supervised PE. At all other times, masks must be worn while on campus (other than lunch) and all other parameters that have been in place throughout the year will continue. Our students have done a phenomenal job adhering to established guidelines and I am so appreciative of the diligence that they and our staff have put forth this year to help maintain the safest environment possible. Awesome job, everyone.
Mid-quarter grades were posted on Friday. If you have not had an opportunity to review your child's progress, please do so via the Infinite Campus Parent Portal. If you have any questions about your child's grades, please contact the appropriate instructor.
Enjoy the last week of April. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact me. Have a great week.
Rob Bickes
Principal

Important COVID-19 Reminders
Please remember students should not come to school if they have any COVID-19 symptoms, have been diagnosed with COVID-19, are waiting for test results, or have been in close contact (within 6 feet of a person with COVID-19 for a cumulative total of 15 minutes or more over a 24-hour period or had physical contact with a person with COVID-19, you need to stay in quarantine at home for 14 days). Parents need to report this to our nurse, Mrs. Hughes.

CUSD Mask Update
As stated in the Governor’s press release on April 19, “K-12 school districts and charter schools still maintain the right to institute and enforce policies to mitigate against COVID-19 spread including the use of masks.”
In a special session Wednesday evening, the Chandler Unified School District Governing Board reviewed the most current information, CDC and public health recommendations, and comments from the community related to the mitigation strategies that have successfully allowed us to return to in-person learning on January 19. In order to finish out the school year strong, hold safe in-person graduation ceremonies, and continue to minimize community spread of COVID-19 on our campuses, the governing board voted to modify our current mask policy beginning Monday, April 26. The mask policy still requires all students in grades PK-12 to wear masks while indoors. In grades PK-6 masks are optional during outdoor activities. In grades 7-12 masks are optional during all supervised outdoor PE classes.
If the CUSD infection rate remains low, effective May 31, 2021 masks will be optional moving forward, beginning with Summer School.
The superintendent will have the authority to make adjustments as needed. All other mitigation strategies currently in place will remain at least through the end of the school year. Thank you for your continued support of our prevention strategies, which will enable us to finish the school year strong, healthy, and safe.
