THE NED SHOW - FEBRUARY ASSEMBLY

On Friday, February 7 at 1pm our OES students will enjoy a special assembly. The Mindset Mission Assembly is visiting our school! NED and our students will take a journey to find their positive mindset. The show is filled with storytelling, humor, illusions and amazing yo-yo tricks where our kids learn the hidden message in NED's name:

Never give up — understand The Power of YET

Encourage others — spark courage in other people

Do your best® — always be learning and growing

You will soon receive information about how to purchase a NED Show yoyo. Students are asked at the assembly, "Do you want to learn to yo?" It is then explained that a yo-yo can be both a mindset tool and a tangible reminder of NED's message. While learning to yo, children will make mistakes, try again and improve. Purchasing a yoyo is optional and more information about pricing will be sent home next week.

PARENT TEACHER CONFERENCES

This information was shared with you through a BlackBoard Connect e-mail from D200:

February parent/teacher conferences will be held for all D200 schools on

  • Thurs, February 13 from 2:00 - 9:00 PM

  • Fri, February 14 from 8:00 AM - 12:30 PM

Students in the dual language program will have additional conference times specific to the teacher/building and these are found in the online scheduling system for the school.

https://woodstockcommunityunitdistrict200.meettheteacher.com

Parents/guardians may schedule their own individual teacher conferences using a web-based appointment system called MEET THE TEACHER. Meet the Teacher allows parents the flexibility to schedule conferences for all of their children at the same time.

If you need assistance with scheduling your child’s conferences, please contact the school office (815-338-0473). There are scheduling kiosks available at each school for you to use as well.

You are a vital partner in the education of your child. Parent/teacher conferences play an integral role in providing feedback regarding your child’s progress as well as formulating individual plans for success. We look forward to seeing you at conferences in February.

We also encourage you to "Save the Date"! It's a fun night for everyone and a big fundraiser for our school. We appreciate the great work of our PTO and our OES staff as this event brings us together for a fun evening!

SOUPER BOWL - FOOD DONATIONS

Which team will win the 2020 Super Bowl?

Kansas CIty Chiefs VS San Francisco 49er's

Once again this year we will invite students to bring canned/boxed food items to show their support for the Super Bowl teams. We will collect from Jan 27 - Jan 31, and students will place their food items on the table corresponding to their favorite team's helmet. On Friday, the team with the most cans will be declared our SOUPer Bowl winner! Students can vote as many times as they want... each food item is one vote.

On Friday we will box up all of the food and donate it to the food pantry.

3RD ANNUAL GET FIT FOR A CAUSE - PE FUNDRAISER

All D200 elementary students are participating in a "Get Fit For a Cause" fundraiser in the month of February. Your child brought home a large manila envelope that is your donation form and money collection container. Look inside the envelope for more specific information about how to donate online and to see what incentives are possible for students!

ALL PLEDGE MONEY IS DUE BY FEB 5 or 6 (Check your child's PE schedule)

On February 5th and 6th we will have the "Get Fit For a Cause" days of exercise with Mr. Fuller and the FIne Arts team.

Proceeds from the fundraiser will be divided between a Childhood Cancer organization and the D200 PE Department.

SCHOLASTIC BOOK FAIR - FEBRUARY 6 - 14

Again this year we will offer a Scholastic Book Fair the week of Parent-Teacher conferences. Students will have an opportunity to view the wonderful selection of books for all ages and reading levels. There will be books available in Spanish, too!

A special thank you to Mrs. Jensen for coordinating this event for Olson. The Book Fair also helps us raise funds for the library to increase our collection of books available for all students and staff.

40 BOOK CHALLENGE BONUS!

Reminder that all students who have a 40 Book Challenge raffle ticket entered during the month of January will receive a $5 Book Fair gift card that can be applied to any item at the Book Fair. Teachers have established the 40 Book Challenge expectations in classrooms and raffle tickets are available to any student who has done the designated amount of reading.

D200 EDUCATION FOUNDATION DINNER/AUCTION

On February 8, 2020 the D200 Ed Foundation will be holding their 26th Annual Groundhog Dinner/Auction at the Woodstock Harley-Davidson Store. The foundation board is very grateful to Woodstock Harley-Davidson for again making their facility available. The Dinner/Auction is the prime source of fundraising that makes the yearly Impact Grants possible. We invite you to support the mission of the Education Foundation in one or more of the following ways:

  • Join us for the fundraiser on February 8. Ticket prices are $60/person through February 1. $65/person after February 2.

ACCESS TESTING

All ACCESS Testing will be done between January 27 and February 13.

ACCESS stands for "Assessing Comprehension and Communication in English State-to-State for English Language Learners." It's a test that's given to students from kindergarten to grade 12, to assess their progress in learning English. The test is administered by the WIDA Consortium. This act sets forth standards for monitoring a student's journey towards English proficiency.

All D200 students who are identified by the Home Language Survey that is part of our registration process are given the ACCESS test annually. This will be done over the next 2 weeks, with all students registered as EL's given the battery of reading, writing, listening, and speaking to assess proficiency in English.

The ACCESS for ELLs test is important because it gives educators and school districts information about a student's progress in English. With this information, especially when the child has been tested since kindergarten, many decisions can be made to help the student's educational growth as much as possible.

EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES

There are a number of positions available at D200 schools. Some positions may require a paraprofessional license or CDL. More info is available through the Human Resources Dept. View job postings and apply online at:
