Hawkeye Teacher of the Year
Congratulations to Mrs. Bynum for being named the Blanton Hawkeye Teacher of the Year. This award is given to a teacher who promotes literacy for students, continues to grow as a literacy educator, has a strong knowledge base of literature, and inspires a passion for reading in others. We are sure you will agree that this describes Mrs. Bynum.
As the K-2 Reading Interventionist, Mrs. Bynum works with students on reading strategies and fluency. She strives to develop a relationship with the students she works with, getting to know them personally and move them along on their reading journey. Students are challenged to try a variety of reading genres as they progress.
Mrs. Bynum also provides professional development for our K-2 staff in the area of reading and writing. We are thrilled to have her on the Blanton staff and know that she has helped both students and teachers promoting literacy on our campus.

Noble Knights
Ryan Waddelow was chosen as a third-grade Noble Knight because he exhibits all of the qualities of a student that is dependable. When Ryan is asked to do something, he does it without question and to the best of his ability. He goes above and beyond in school and out. Ryan leads by example. His teacher, Mrs. Gray, knows that she can always count on Ryan to lend a helping hand to her or any of his classmates.
Chloe Bell is a trustworthy 3rd grader. She is dependable and works hard at earning teacher's trust. She is an example of someone who works hard to set a good example. Chloe likes helping in the classroom and being someone that is trustworthy. She tries very hard every day and always does her best. Her teacher, Mrs. Patrick, is so happy she is someone we can count on!
4th Graders Visit Austin
Fourth graders from Denton ISD’s Blanton Elementary traveled to Austin on an Education in Action Discover Texas Field Trip October 26, 2017 to experience what they are learning in fourth grade Texas History. Students visited the Texas State Capitol and the Bullock Texas State History Museum.
During the charter bus ride to Austin, students discussed why Texans are so proud of their unique heritage and participated in activities and games in preparation for their visit. In Austin the students visited the Texas State Capitol where their legislators, The Honorable Jane Nelson, State Senator, District 12 and The Honorable Tan Parker, State Representative, District 63, office. Students saw first-hand where Texas laws are made as they toured the State Capitol including the Senate and House of Representatives chambers. At the Bullock Texas State History Museum students explored exhibits about Texas’s earliest inhabitants, the Texas Revolution, and events that created our Lone Star identity. The students’ visit to the museum concluded at the multi-sensory Texas Spirit Theater with the Star of Destiny where they saw and experienced the history of our great state including a gusher exploding from an East Texas oil derrick and the takeoff of Saturn V as seen from Mission Control at the Lyndon B. Johnson Space Center in Houston.
