Estuaries
What is an estuary
An estuary is a partly enclosed coastal body of brackish water with one or more rivers or streams flowing into it, and with a free connection to the open sea. Estuaries form a transition zone between river environments and maritime environments.
Things You Can Do to Protect Estuaries
Estuaries require everyone’s help and hard work to keep them clean and safe. There are many things you can do to help protect estuaries and to conserve the valuable natural resource in estuarine ecosystems.
Some types of animals that live in estuaries include but are not limited to…
Fish
A fish is any member of a paraphyletic group of organisms that consist of all gill-bearing aquatic craniateanimals that lack limbs with digits
Opossums
The opossums, also known by their scientific name Didelphimorphia make up the largest order of marsupials in the Western Hemisphere, including 103 or more species in 19 generations
Skunks
Skunks are mammals known for their ability to spray a liquid with a strong odor. Different species of skunk vary in appearance from black-and-white to brown or cream colored, but all have warning coloration
