LRE Update -
Week of February 5 - 9
February is Black History Month!
If you have a student that would like to share information on a famous person in Black History, I'd love to highlight them on the announcements. Send them my way. Here is a link...if you would like to learn more with your class.https://kids.nationalgeographic.com/history/article/black-history-month
Mr. Crabtree read stories to our K classrooms.
Observation Round 2 if you prefer to get them done sooner rather than later...
NYS Literacy Initiative Briefings
In districts across NYS we are asked to become aquainted with the Science of Reading. Lucky for us most of our staff has taken part in LETRS training. I will be sending out the briefs throughout the year and asking you to touch upon new ideas during your CTT time and staff meetings across the year. I don't expect this to be new information for most, but please take some time to acquaint yourself.https://drive.google.com/file/d/18oA6Vo8TGFyWE-iuN11kV93LxmIMGv9Q/view?usp=sharing
FYI - Kristy Kavanaugh (Teacher Aide)
Kristy has been out on leave this year and recently retired. Kristy has done a lot for our building over the years, there is a card in the office if you would like to contribute $ and sign her card to show your appreciation. Lindy Nash who was with us last year will be joining us again starting next week.
10 Principles for Holding Students Accountable...
- Relationships – There’s trust and it’s clear you’re in it for the team, not yourself.
- Expectations – People are clear on which goals are important and which are less urgent.
- Competence– “It’s foolhardy to set high goals for incompetent people,” says Rockwell.
- Motivation – People need to care about the task.
- Ownership – They see its importance and care about doing it well.
- Deadlines – These should be reasonable.
- Check-ins – Interim feedback happens at scheduled intervals.
- Development – “Focus on learning and growth,” says Rockwell.
- Recognition – Success is celebrated.
- Consequences – When novices fail, there’s feedback and support. A chance to do better.
If an outside agency contacts you regarding a student...
We need consent to discuss students with outside agencies. You should always go through the office to see if we have consent. If the agency is requesting reports or meetings those also need to be established through the Main Office. If an agency is reaching out to you please forward the e-mail to me. If you have any questions regarding tutors or outside agencies, please see me.
Morning Meeting
Do you have morning meeting?
Here is a great site for information on morning meetings and a video. Have you considered inviting a special guest to attend your morning meeting. If they are before 9:30 you can invite a special area teacher or service provider or another staff member.
