Our Longhorn Newsletter is designed to give you important updates from Instructional Technology and to let you know of any upcoming trainings. You can always visit our Instructional Technology Webpage for more information and helpful hints for integrating technology into your classroom.

iPad News

It is now okay to go ahead and update your district issued iPad to the latest iOS. It is still strongly recommended that you do this at home and not at school. Also make sure you back up any pictures and any other content you don't want to lose, "just in case" something should go wrong with the update.

If you still haven't gotten your iPad, register for one of the upcoming iPad Innovation sessions in Eduphoria.

The next session is November 5, 2015 @ 4:15 in the Third Floor Training Room at the Government center.

Getting Your Google On!

Yes - we are now a Google Apps for Education District (GAFE)! All staff and students have their own Google Account. If you are interested in using Google Apps for your classroom or with students please contact Tracey or Claudio to get started.

Please note if you are planning to use Google Apps in your classroom with students, you need to use your district account and not a personal account that you created.

Eduphoria Updates

Over the next several months, Eduphoria is expected to begin rolling out updates of their different applications. You may have already noticed some of the big changes in AWARE. There is a tutorial in AWARE available if you haven't yet familiarized yourself with the changes. In the next couple of weeks, they will be pushing out some new and improved search capabilities within AWARE and releasing a new Online Help feature. We will do our best to keep you posted of any major changes.

Student Email - Gmail for grades 1-9; Microsoft 365 for grades 10-12

We are transitioning student email to Gmail. Students in grades 1st through 9th will now use Gmail. Their address is FirstnameLastname@chisd.org and the link to access their account is http://mail.chisd.org. Students in grades 10th, 11th and 12th will continue to use Microsoft365 email. Those addresses are FirstnameLastname@student.chisd.net and the link to access their account is https://outlook.office365.com. Both links can be under the student tab on the district website.

Technology Workshops

Please check Eduphoria for any upcoming technology workshops.

#Trending - What we like right now!

Technology changes daily! Below are apps and websites worth exploring.

Coding and Makey Makey

We recently purchased 10 Makey Makey kits for use in classrooms. MaKey MaKey is an invention kit for the 21st century. Turn everyday objects into touchpads and combine them with the internet. It's a simple Invention Kit for Beginners and Experts doing art, engineering, and everything inbetween: The kit will include everything you see above: MaKey MaKey, Alligator Clips, USB Cable.

We demoed some Makey Makey projects at the Lake Ridge Career Expo. Fifth graders even participated in creating our "world record - largest Makey Makey circuit." (Not officially confirmed by Guiness World Records). Contact us if you want more information.
