News for our Families: Week of March 6-10
Principal's Message/Mensaje de la Directora
Marching Into Spring!
Bloom and Grow!
We had a great week back from our vacation, despite the rain! With this rain, we are seeing our garden, trees, and plants beginning to blossom and grow. Your children are blooming too! You see it in their reading confidence, their math proficiency, and confidence!
We've made great growth as a school so far this year. Our iReady scores in both reading and math have reached our school expectations and we are well on our way to exceeding these school goal growths, K-5. This is exciting news for us as a community.
Our entire staff work hard to ensure our students are ready for success in life, in career, and in beyond. Keep blooming. Keep growing!
Sincerely,
Ms. Hilary Cuevas
Principal
Thank you, Mrs. Campisi!
A New Adventure Awaits Our Assistant Principal
We would like to wish our Assistant Principal, Mrs. Campisi, all the best in her new position as Assistant Principal in the Del Mar Union School District.
Mrs. Campisi helped to develop our systems for Student Success Teams, Language Acquisition Team, and many other student, family, and staff support. She is a true Libby team player. Her friendly and energetic personality will be dearly missed. Her new adventure begins with Del Mar on March 13th. Be sure to give Mrs. Campisi a hug and say "see you again soon!".
Libby will be supported by district Teacher on Special Assignment (TOSA), Mrs. Jessica Goss, in Mrs. Campisi's absence to finish the school year. We welcome Mrs. Goss to Libby and her first day with us will be Monday, March 20th.

Too Early!
There Is No Student Supervision Before 7:45AM
Remember that our gates do not open until 7:45am. We do not have supervision for our students before 7:45am. We see many students outside the gates too early. It can be dangerous to leave students before supervision is available. Also, students stand in the cold weather and this is dangerous too. Please make arrangements to avoid dropping off your students too early. Contact our office if you require support at 760-901-7000. Thank you!
Behavior Expectations are Important!
Positive Behavior at School
The 3 R's at Libby are Respect, Responsible, and Ready to Learn. We remind our students often to be kind which means to interact positively, and play nicely together. Sometimes our reminders must be more serious, especially if a student hurts another student.
When a student hurts another child, we immediately conduct an investigation to find out what happened and why. We must talk to all involved and then we contact families as soon as possible. Often the problem can be resolved through Restorative Practices when students talk it out and repair the relationship. Other times, consequences are given.
Please speak with your child every day about the 3 Rs and when at school, positive behavior is an expectation. If you have any questions, please reach out to your child's teacher first. We are happy to answer your questions.
March is Women's History Month!
Family Learning
March is Women's History Month, a month where we learn about and celebrate the women who have changed the world and the women in our lives. Which women in your life would you like to celebrate?
Don't Forget!!
🚗TRAFFIC ALERTS!!!!!
BE SAFE!!!
It is extremely important that all of our Libby Families be safe when dropping off and picking up their students from school. We have had many reports of people in our school community not following traffic rules!
- DO NOT SPEED!
- DO NOT PARK IN THE DROP OFF/PICK UP ZONE!
- PARK IN THE PARKING LOT
- STAY IN YOUR CAR!
- MOVE FORWARD THROUGH THE DROP OFF/PICK UP ZONE
- WATCH FOR FAMILIES WALKING
- BE PATIENT AND BE AWARE, STAY OFF YOUR CELL PHONES
We are looking for volunteers to help us keep students safe. Please call the office if you are interested in volunteering. We need volunteers from 8:00-8:15 am and 2:45-3:15pm (M, T, Th, F) and 12:15-12:45pm (W). Thank you for your cooperation.
Remember to Charge Your Device!
Bring Your Device Charged Up and Ready!
Each day our Libby Tigers use their electronic device (Chromebook, tablets) to access learning from iReady to Nearpod and with many technology based programs. Please help your children to remember to charge their device so that they are ready to learn. If you are having issues with the device, please inform your child's teacher. Build a daily routine of plugging in the device and then bringing it to school.
Lost and Found Cart is Getting Full!
Is your child missing a jacket, an umbrella or water bottle? Please be sure to check the Lost and Found cart next to the MPR. Items that are not claimed by the end of the year, will be donated. Please remind your children to stay responsible for their items. Also, consider writing your child's name inside the jacket or on the item so that we can return it right away. Thanks!

In keeping with our mission to educate every student for success in the global community, we are pleased to offer four programs taught by teachers specially trained to address the needs of English learners. Students with minimal English skills enroll in our Structured English Immersion Program, where instruction is primarily in English and designed to help students learn English as rapidly as possible while giving them special assistance in math, science and history
Programs Offered
The Oceanside Unified School District is committed to providing effective educational program options for English learners that meet district and state standards for English competence and academic achievement.
The English Learners Master Plan explains the various program options for English learners. We are proud to offer our English learners the following educational pathways:
Structured English Immersion Program (SEI)
Two Way Bilingual Immersion Program (TWBI)
Newcomer Program (In Progress)Through the SEI Program students develop grade-level English skills while also having access to grade-level curriculum. English Learners receive English Language Development (ELD) as well as instruction in all content areas such as math, science, history and physical education. Cold and Flu Season is Here!
Cold and flu season is upon us. Health officials are warning there may be high levels of influenza compared to the past two years, when COVID-19 precautions helped keep flu infections low. As a reminder, please do not send your child to school if they are feeling sick or experiencing symptoms of a virus. . See more prevention tips from the CDC.
Safety First!!!
Parent Volunteer Safety Patrol Needed
Libby Elementary always has a focus on safety! It is one of the most important concerns. We would like to start a Volunteer Safety Patrol to help us direct traffic, assist in helping children exit and enter their cars, and keeping our students safe during morning drop-off and afternoon pick-up. If you have a focus on safety and have time during the morning, 7:45-8:15am and/or 2:10pm-3:15pm, we would appreciate your help. We can create a schedule and with enough volunteers, it would be just 30 minutes of your time once or twice a week. Please contact Mrs. Campisi at kristina.campisi@oside.us for more information. Thank you!
Keep CLEAR!
New Signs! Drop Off/Pick Up Zone
Please follow our new signs and do not drop off/pick up students until you move all the way down the curb. DO NOT PARK ON THE CURB! When you drop off/pick up before the drop-off/pick up zone, cars back up on to W. Redondo Dr and that is very DANGEROUS! Please be safe and courteous for all families and their students.
No Dogs on Campus
📓School News You Can Use 🍎
Call our Attendance Hotline to report your child's absence.
Students Out More Than 5 days Need an Independent Study Contract. Please Read!
Independent Study Contracts
If your child will be away from school longer than 5 days, please let us know ahead of time (at least a week prior) so that we can prepare an Independent Study Contract. The contract will first need to be approved by the principal and will include school work for your child to complete so that the missing days from school will not be considered "unexcused". Please call our office at 760-901-7000 or stop by to speak with an office staff member. Without approval or without prior notice to set up the contract, the days missed will be marked "unexcused". Thank you for your cooperation!
Weekly Envelope!
Every week your child takes home a weekly information envelope. Inside are important flyers, letters, and items that need your attention. Please remove the items and return the signed envelope back to school with your child. Thank you!
Play First, Then Eat! 🥪Lunch Menu Link 🍽️

Attendance Matters!
Please be sure your child arrives on time and attends school every day! When students miss school they miss valuable learning time. If your child is sick, please keep them home until they are feeling better. Please report all absences to our Attendance Hotline at 760-901-7001. Attendance Matters! Every student! Every day! Thank you for your help and support.
