Sehome High School Mariner Memo
Week of May 17 - 21, 2021
Principal's Letter
What an incredible weekend filled with sunshine and an opportunity for rest and enjoyment in the outdoors. I hope you were able to take full advantage of these gorgeous days.
This week, we have our season 3 games happening. We will have a limited number of spectators at the games and it is by ticket only. Although the CDC guidance about wearing masks has changed, the Washington guidance for schools and events at schools has not changed. Masks must be worn at all events- inside and out- at all times. This is true if you are vaccinated or not, if you agree or not, and if you are student or visitor. We want to keep offering athletic events indoors, but we need your help to make that happen. It is not a fun gig. We do not want to wander around all night reminding people to put their masks on or to cover their noses. But we do it to help keep athletics available for our students. It also puts all other activities, including graduation, at risk if we cannot keep everyone healthy and following the procedures. We appreciate your help in making this happen.
All JV and Varsity games will also be live-streamed and can be viewed by accessing the Sehome Athletics website, then click on "Watch" from the top bar of options.
On Wednesday, seniors can pick up their cap and gown from Jostens after school. There is additional information that went out from Mr. Couto last week. If you requested a senior t-shirt, they will be available for pick up at that time. Yard signs are also available to be picked up at any time. If a student has parents at different homes, they are welcome to take additional signs so that each parent has a sign.
Senior Families- please know that we are working on getting multiple senior events in June. We ask that you encourage your senior to follow social distancing and mask guidance at off-campus gatherings or that they do not attend such events so that our community can be healthy and we are able to go through with the planned senior events. We have come this far. We want our seniors to have incredible senior experiences and finish together on Civic Field.
We do not have school on Friday this week. This day was built in as a make-up day for a snow day. Turns out, we did not need it this year, so it is a day off.
On May 20, we kick off our Sehome PTSA auction. This auction raises funds to support a number of activities and programs and Sehome. To learn more about what sorts of things the PTSA helps support, please watch the video below! We appreciate anything that you can give. Many of you have supported us through your time, your words of encouragement, your treats for our staff. Others choose to support us with financial support. We appreciate it all. We learned this year, more than any I can remember, that it takes an entire community to make things happen.
As always, thank you for all the ways you support your children and our community. If you have any questions, comments, ideas, or celebrations, please send them my way!

Hello Mariners!
The Sehome High School PTSA’s virtual auction begins this week. We need ALL HANDS ON DECK to make this fundraiser a success!
All proceeds will support Sehome’s clubs, sports, teacher grants, and programs that would otherwise not be fully funded. Check out this video of staff talking about how PTSA had been able to support SHS!

Attention Sehome Seniors and Senior Families
Jostens will be at Sehome next Wednesday, May 19th, to distribute graduation cap and gowns. They will be here from 12:30 - 2:30 for distribution. If your or your senior student attend school in person on Wednesdays please plan to pickup your cap and gown immediately after live learning at 12:30. If you or your student are a remote learner please plan to collect your cap and gown materials anytime after 1:15 pm. This will support spacing out the distribution effort.
In addition to receiving your cap and gown, there will also be yard or home signs for graduates, a class of 2021 t-shirt and some additional fun items put together by Senior parents.
If you have any questions please contact the office. Thank you and we look forward to seeing you next Wednesday.

Sports Registration Information
Online Registration
Families, along with your student-athlete, need to complete an athletic registration form each year. This may be done through Final Forms. In addition to the forms, the student will need a current sports physical on file.
A benefit of online registration is that your information is saved making the process easier when registering for athletics next school year. This also allows the athletics and activities office to verify that all forms are turned in prior to the first practice ensuring your student will be able to participate. Computers are available for families with limited internet access and you may call the athletics and activities office at (360) 676-6470 x5201 for support while filling out the online registration. In addition to the forms, your student will need a current sports physical on file.
Important:
- After completing Final Forms, your student will need to be cleared for each sports season at their school’s activities office before they can participate in any sport.
- A current sports physical exam (form), which cannot expire during the sports season, is required for the student to participate in athletics.
Remember to Wear Your Mask at ALL Games Inside & Outside
Reminder: Register now for fall 2021
Registration for fall 2021 is still open for kindergarten and all grades. Families can register students via this webpage. Registering now helps us hire staff, balance our classes, connect with families and ready our schools to welcome our students.
Registration is for students new to our district or who want to return after transferring to a school or program outside our district. You do not need to register current students; we automatically re-enroll them.
A special note about kindergarten: All children who will be 5 before Sept. 1, 2021 can be registered for kindergarten. We plan to start in-person learning at every school this fall with strong safety protocols in place.
To find out more about attendance areas, registration and childhood immunization schedules, please visit bellinghamschools.org/kindergarten or contact our elementary schools directly. Feel free to let a friend or neighbor with a future kindergartner know the registration window is open and ready for them!
Medication at School
If your student requires medication at school please provide a complete Authorization for Medications at School. Students may self-carry some medications with physician, parent/guardian and school nurse approval. Any medication that a student brings with them to school, must have a medication authorization form complete and on file at school. If you have any questions about your student’s health needs while at school please contact your School Nurse, Alyssa Johnson at 360-201-8766 or alyssa.johnson@bellinghamschools.org. We are looking forward to welcoming your student(s) back to Sehome!
