Flag Pole Estimation Project

AA Similarity
- AA Similarity can be used in this project because there are two congruent angles present.
- The first group of congruent angles is present where the pole and the person meet the concrete. This forms a 90° right angle. The second group of congruent angles is present by the mirror.
- The mirror provides congruent angles by the Law of Reflection. This law states that the original angle is congruent to the reflected angle.
Pencil/Person
- The pencil/person technique is used to find the estimated height of objects. First, a person stands directly next to the object. Find the measure of the person. Next, another person stands a far distance away from the object. Closing one eye, the person will match the length of the pencil to the length of the person. Then, the person will then estimate how many lengths reach the top of the object. Finally, the group multiplies that number by the measure of the person to find the estimated height of the object.
- The person standing next to the flag pole is 6 feet tall. The pencil took up 5 lengths of the flag pole. Therefore, the estimated height of the flag pole is 30 feet.
