A Note from our Administrative Team
It's hard to believe it's May!
Although this school year is nearing an end, there is a lot of learning happening in our classrooms and within our school community. You can learn about these things in the articles below.
If there is anything that we can do to support your child, or your family, during the last weeks of the school year, don't hesitate to connect with us.
With Gratitude,
Stephanie Johnson, Principal

Keep our Community Healthy
Thanks for helping keep our school community healthy!
We have had multiple cases of COVID-19 in our school community in the last two weeks. Families are able to monitor this on the Bellingham Public Schools COVID-19 Dashboard.
Public health strongly encourages you to monitor your child for symptoms and to keep your child home if they aren’t feeling well. Wearing a mask continues to be optional, and is an effective way to minimize transmission. We have masks at school for any student who wants to wear one. We also have free rapid antigen tests that any family can pick up in our school office for home use. Testing is available at Wade King, the Family Resource Center at Shuksan Middle School, and in the community. If your child tests positive, public health says they must isolate for 5 days after symptom onset and may return wearing a mask for days 6-10. See our COVID-19 webpages for more information.
Know that if there are more than 2 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in your child’s classroom within a 2 week period, we will notify you by phone or email. In that case, testing is strongly encouraged three to five days after exposure and we are able to do those tests at school at parent request. Don’t hesitate to call our office at 360-647-6840 or email our school nurse, Alyssa Johnson, if you have questions.
Kindergarten Registration
Registration for fall kindergarten has begun in Bellingham Public Schools. All children who will be 5 before September 1, 2022 can be registered for kindergarten. Families can register their child online in Skyward by following the instructions on our kindergarten webpage. Please spread the word to family and friends who will be entering Bellingham Schools next fall!
Each elementary school is also planning a Kindergarten Open House in May or June. Our Wade King Kindergarten Open House will be on Thursday, June 2nd from 3-5pm. Peek into the PYP
How We Organize Ourselves
Our 1st grade students have been inquiring into How We Organize Ourselves by learning about modes of transportation. Their inquiry focused on this central idea... People and goods are transported in a variety of ways. Students recently completed a research project, in which they worked in groups to learn about a mode of transportation, then created giant posters and presented their learning.
How the World Works
Our 5th grade students have been inquiring into How the World Works by learning about matter and energy transfer. Their inquiry focused on this central idea... Matter and energy can change. Students have been engaging in some investigations, including an exploration of the types of energy transfer taking place in a variety of traditional games and toys. Another investigation involves rolling marbles down paper "roller coasters" to build an understanding of height energy and energy transfer.
