Happy New Year!
Welcome Back & Happy New Year!
The students' return to campus has infused the school sites with energy and excitement. My hope is that the winter break gave everyone an opportunity to enjoy time with friends and family and to get ready for an incredible 2018!
The jobs we do make lifelong differences in the lives of children, but to do these often difficult jobs, we need the support of our family and loved ones. It is my hope that in the upcoming year, each of you is able to spend quality time with those that are positive influences in your personal life.
Wishing each and every one of you an exciting, healthy and prosperous new year.
- Kelly Staley

Negotiations Update
CUSD-CUTA Negotiations Update
The District and CUTA met for negotiations on both November 30th and December 14th. Significant progress was made regarding a 3-year model for wage increases. It appears that both sides are very close to agreement although some details remain to be worked out. The 3-year model projects the following increases at this time:
Year
2017-2018 (current year)
2018-2019
2019-2020
Compounded Total
Per ADA change over prior year
2.17%
2.61%
2.23%
7.17%
Other factors that may influence the final numbers are enrollment (enrollment has increased the past 3 years) and whether or not the governor decides to fully fund LCFF in the 2018-19 school year. Fully funding LCFF could significantly increase the percentage for 2018-19 but decrease the percentage in 2019-20.
We continue to discuss All-Day Kindergarten which is a major issue for the School Board and District. Parents continue to demand an All-Day Kindergarten program which the CUSD school board supports. The current part day program does not meet the needs of all our parents and families. Since we compete directly with Charter and Private Schools it is our desire for parents to choose CUSD over other these other options.
Overall negotiations have been positive and constructive as we have made excellent progress on nearly all issues.
CUSD-CSEA Negotiations Update
Negotiations were scheduled with CSEA for both November 27 and December 14 but CSEA notified the District they were unable to attend. We have negotiations scheduled again on January 10, 2018.

Shasta Spirit Day
Shasta Student Council sponsored an ugly sweater day for students and added a creative shirt day for teachers. Student Council provided red t-shirts for the teachers to decorate with their students. Students judged the creativity and ugliness of the shirts and handed out awards for the ugliest and most creative shirt. This crew definitely has talent!!
Happy Holidays from The Shasta Bobcats!
