AAL Updates
What to Expect for the New School Year
July 6, 2020
Dear AAL Students & Parents/Guardians,
I hope you are staying safe and enjoying the summer!
This past spring our world experienced something unprecedented with COVID-19. As we continue to respond to the health crisis, we want you to be assured we are doing everything we can to ensure staff and student safety this Fall. The health guidelines complicates what the return to school will look like. However, we'll be ready to teach your children while keeping them safe. Below, find updates regarding what to expect as we return back to school next month:
AAL Leadership Team
You may be familiar with Mary Higgins, she is returning as Assistant Principal. Alex Walter, former Dean and teacher is transitioning to Assistant Principal. Rachel Bryce, former teacher is also transitioning to Assistant Principal. I am Linda August, incoming Principal. Click on our website's school leadership page to read bios. We are looking forward to a great year together!
Third Future Schools (TRS) Network Health & Safety Guidelines
Click on the TRS: Health & Safety Guidelines for details regarding safety protocols, including social distancing, temperature checks, classroom ratios, etc. Note: All students will be required to bring a mask to school. Please help us keep our students safe by reading the guidelines carefully.
School Calendar
The 2020-2021 school calendar is posted on the AAL website (upper right corner). You can also click here for the general calendar. The first day of school is August 5th.
School Day Hours
School will be open 5 days a week. With COVID-19 safety guidelines, we can safely supervise students between the hours of 6:30am-4:30pm. All students must be picked up by 4:30pm. We recognize this is quite a change from last year's schedule and appreciate your understanding the need for student safety.
Start and Dismissal Times
K-1 Grades: 8:00am-3:00pm
2nd Grade: 8:00am-3:15pm
3rd-8th Grades: Choice of Start Time a) 7:30am-2:30pm or b) 9:00am-4:00pm
E-Learning Option
If you prefer your child e-learn from home instead of physically coming to school, s/he can do so with Administrative approval. Please note: This is a great option for students who are independent learners, who do not need much supervision. For other students, this is not an ideal method of learning. We want to set up all of our students for success.
Before and After Care
Yes, we will still have before and after care between the school day hours of 6:30am-4:30pm.
Check-in & Confirm Enrollment Contact
During the week of July 13, you will receive a phone call from a AAL staff member to check in with you, confirm enrollment for the Fall, and inquire regarding your child's start time (for 3rd-8th grade) or indicate if you would like your child to e-learn from home. If you would like to send an email to let us know your preferred start time, please email info@aalk8.org.
Expanding our Campus
To accommodate social distancing guidelines AAL is expanding! In addition to our main building at Sable Blvd., we will be using the former Colorado Early College building located at 350 N Blackhawk St #8754, Aurora, CO 80011. Currently, our plan is to house our 7th and 8th graders at the Blackhawk building. We are seeking the use of a third building to ensure all students can return, every day in the Fall. We will have more details in a few weeks.
School Supply List
Click on the AAL 2020-2021 School Supply List for a list of items your child will need this Fall. As we are following the recommended guidelines by the CDC, and Tri-County Health we are not sharing supplies in the classroom. Therefore, students will need to bring their own bookbag every day with supplies. Students will be asked to hang their bookbag off the bag of their chairs.
Uniforms
Will be available to purchase during back-to-school night or you can purchase them online via the Lands End Website. Click on the dress code link for required dress code and uniform.
Staffing Updates
Click on Hellos & Transitions to find out the latest on who is joining AAL and whose role is transitioning. Hello to Jose Padilla, Office Assistant.
Communication Updates
Newsletters
I will be using the newsletter site to communicate with parents/guardians. In addition, we have plans to include a link on the AAL website to archive newsletters so you can refer back to it if you need to.
Public Calendar
We will be working on creating a public calendar, accessible on the school website, which will have detailed dates and information beyond the general calendar. We will post specific dates like parent teacher conferences, etc. on the public calendar. This will be set up before the school year begins!
Back-to-School Virtual Meeting
Questions about back-to-school? Come to the Back-to-School Virtual Meeting on Monday, July 20th at 5:00pm. You can meet our Administrative Team, we'll share out health guidelines and answer questions you may have. We are working on a webinar link for the virtual meeting and will make that link available soon.
Back-to-School Night
We will host a Back to School Night in person for all grade levels before the school year begins. Due to COVID-19 guidelines, we will not be able to host a BBQ this year. We will likely host Back-to-School Night in classrooms and have a sign up system so parents/guardians can come in to meet teachers. We will send out additional information soon!
We look forward to seeing you in the Fall!
Sincerely,
Linda August
Principal
