Every year, the Big Spring Bulldogs play the Shippensburg Greyhounds in a rivalry game called the Little Brown Jug. This year, we played away at Shippensburg.

Veteran's Day Ceremony

On Friday, November 10th, 2017, Big Spring High School's Tempus Club held their annual Veteran's Day Ceremony. Students and staff, as well as community members, had the opportunity to see the changing of the American flag, music played by our concert band and Cantabile, and a speech by Mr. Gary Shulenberger.

Students Continue their Athletic Careers

Cross Country runner, Samantha Crouse, and wrestler, Blake Barrick, signed to continue their sport at college. Sam Crouse will continue running at Clarion University. Blake Barrick will be wrestling at American University.

Teachers Support Cypress Springs

On Wednesday, November 8th, faculty and staff wore their red Hurricane Harvey shirts in support of our adopted school, Cypress Springs High School. The donated materials are on 5 pallets and awaiting shipping to the school. Thank you to all who have contributed to this effort.

AP World History Students Travel to DC

AP World History students took the metro and traveled to Washington DC on Saturday November 11th. The 17 students got to visit the National Gallery of Art, the National Archives, and the National Portrait Gallery. At the National Archives they got to see the Declaration of Independence, The Constitution, and the Bill of Rights.

Children's Grief Awareness Week

Club C.A.R.E. hosted Children’s Grief Awareness Week from November 13th to the 17th to show their support for grieving students. Each day, students had something different they could do to get involved.

Tuesday: Tattoo and Face Paint

Wednesday: Guest Speaker

Thursday: Wear Blue

Friday: Pop away sadness for candy

To participate, students went to the Club C.AR.E. table during their lunch.

On Wednesday, guest speaker Marcy Taylor from the Drew Michael Taylor Foundation, spoke to 9th and 10th graders during advisement on grief and coping skills.

Marching Band Season Comes to an End

Our Marching Bulldogs finished out their season strong with a performance at the Hersheypark Stadium for the Cavalcade of Bands Championship. On Friday November 10th, our band members put on one last performance for the community before finalizing the season in Hershey on the 11th. The marching bulldogs finished in 8th with a high score of 82.85.

Lights out for Puerto Rico

After Puerto Rico was devastated by Hurricane Maria, the Big Spring High School Key Club found a way to help them out! On Thursday November 16th, Big Spring had a moment of silence to honor the victims. Key Club also sold bracelets for $3.00 and will be sending the proceeds to Puerto Rico.

BSHS Students in National Technical Honor Society at CPAVTS

Seven Big Spring High School students were inducted into the National Technical Honor Society (NTHS) at Cumberland Perry Area Vocational Technical School (CPAVTS). The following students are new members: Anthony Cleary, Jerica George, Josh Miller, Sydney Palmer, Kirsten Sebers, Chloe White, and Elwood Yohe.

Student of the Quarter Breakfast

To show our appreciation towards the students who received Student of the Quarter recognition for the first marking period, Big Spring has started a new tradition. Students of the quarter, their parents, and the staff member who nominated them were invited to a breakfast that was held on Friday, November 17th. There were over 80 parents and students in attendance for this event sponsored by Belco/Cornerstone Credit Union. The breakfast itself was provided by Chartwell’s.

Students of the Quarter from the Cumberland Perry Area Vocational Technical School will be recognized at a later date.

Thanksgiving Recess

Students began their Thanksgiving recess on Tuesday November 21st and went back to school on Tuesday November 28th. Staff had in-service days on the 21st and 22nd.

Blood Drive

The Sophomore Class Officers are hosting a blood drive on Wednesday November 29th. In order to donate, students had to sign up before the holiday break. All students that participated were over the age of 16 and weighed more than 110 pounds. Also, parental consent was required

Parent Teacher Conferences and Student Exhibitions

On Thursday November 30th was both Parent/Teacher Conferences and the Student Exhibition Hour. Parent/ Teacher Conferences ran from 3:30 to 7:00pm. For the first time ever, the Big Spring High School held their first ever Exhibition Hour. This exhibition hour took place in the Commons, Auditorium, and Large Group Room from 5:00 to 6:00 pm. There were 4 departments being showcased: art, business, music, and social studies. It was a great opportunity for parents and members of the community to see what students at Big Spring High School have been doing.

Holiday Break

Students will begin their Holiday Break on December 22, 2017 and will begin school again on January 3, 2018.

Vo-Tech Students

Big Spring High School will not have classes for students on Tuesday, January 2. However, classes will be in session for our vocational education students at the Cumberland Perry Area Vocational Technical School on this date. Transportation will only be provided from Big Spring High School to CPAVTS and back. The bus will depart promptly at 7:25 a.m. from the High School Commons Parking Lot and will return at approximately 11:30 a.m. Students must provide their own transportation to and from the High School, as bussing to and from students' homes will not be provided.

Keystone Make-Up Days will be available on January 16, 18, 19, and 22nd.

Friday January 12, 2018: Finals for Periods 2A, 2B, 2AB, and 5
