Secure Campus and Lock Down Drills
As discussed in last week’s faculty meeting we are scheduled to have two drills on Tuesday 2/26/19 during period 3, we will initiate a Secure Campus Drill at 10:54am and we will initiate our Lockdown drill at 11:00am
10:54 Secure Campus drill will initiate
1. Secure Campus Drill Procedures: Make sure students understand what to do if they are in class and also outside class during the drill.
2. Ensure that the door is locked.
3. If, when locking the door a teacher notices that any students or staff is still outside, allow them into the classroom as quickly as possible.
4. Once everyone is in and the door is locked, the teacher will continue with class and monitor communication from main office.
5. Enforce the no entrance; no exit protocol. Remain in the classroom or secured area until further instructions are provided by Site Administrator or Law Enforcement
6. SECURE CAMPUS DRILL takes priority over fire alarms. Stay in place unless instructed otherwise.
7. Do not release students out of classroom unless directed by an official announcement.
8. Wait for another action or, if ALL CLEAR announcement is issued, return to normal class routine
SECURE CAMPUS is initiated to increase safety by mitigating risk and asserting physical control over a situation. Exterior doors are secured and all normal education continues within protection of fully locked and secured shelters. SECURE CAMPUS must be followed by another ACTION or the ALL CLEAR instruction to return to normal school activities.
11:00am LOCKDOWN DRILL
1. Lockdown Drill Procedures: Make sure students understand what to do if they are in class and also outside class during a lockdown.
2. Ensure that the door is locked.
3. If, when locking the door a teacher notices that any students or staff is still outside, allow them into the classroom as quickly as possible.
4. Once everyone is in and the door is locked, the teacher will stop class and turn off the lights.
5. Students are to remain away from windows and quiet throughout the drill.
6. During the drill, the door is not to be opened for any reason, even if the person knocking identifies him or herself as a police officer.
7. Teachers are responsible for the well-being and behavior of their students during the drill until dismissed or given other directions from the administration.
A few reminders:
1. Please ensure that all students participate in the Drill.
2. All teachers should prepare to participate.
3. All classified support staff on special assignments (gate security, search and rescue): report to the command post (in the main office) at the beginning of the drill and wait for further instructions.
4. The drill should last a total of 07 minutes.
5. After the drill, please e-mail me your feedback, concerns, questions, and/or suggestions for improvement.
Discuss appropriate behavior for students before and during the drill. Stress to them the importance of taking the drill seriously.
If you have any questions e-mail Ms. Wise.
Thank you for your assistance and cooperation in making this a practical experience.
