Spring Attire
Dear Parents/Guardians
Springtime has arrived and with its arrival, some of our students have taken to spring and summer fashions. As an educational team, our staff is committed to providing the most conducive learning environment for your child. Appropriate school attire is an important factor in creating a safe and comfortable school setting. Please refer to the Student/Parent Handbook for the school dress code. Listed below are some guidelines to help determine appropriate dress for school:
1. Sleeveless shirts are permitted as long as they extend to the shoulder. Tank, tube and halter tops, including “spaghetti” straps, are not permitted.
2. Tasteful shorts are permitted during the school hours. Dresses, skirts and shorts shall be a length of at least mid-thigh.
3. Graphics or text on apparel that state or suggest obscene or offensive messages are prohibited.
4. Students are not permitted to wear hats in the building; however, they may bring them to school to wear during outside activities. Other inappropriate head coverings such as bandanas, sweatbands, caps, do-rags and any other headwear deemed inappropriate are not to be worn during the school day or school functions, except for medical and/or religious purposes. Also, please remind your child not to share hats.
5. The warm weather provides us with an opportunity to go outside on a daily basis after lunch and during outside play. Flip-flops, open backed, or platform sandals are not considered safe footwear for active outside play, and your child will be asked to sit out. In addition, rollerblade sneakers are not considered appropriate footwear for school.
6. Please remember that classrooms are fully air conditioned. Your child should be dressed appropriately.
Please help us monitor appropriate daily school attire. If a child’s dress is deemed inappropriate while attending the school day or other school related events, parents or guardians will be contacted to bring their child a change of clothes. If you have any questions concerning acceptable attire, please call the school office at 732-431-3321. Again, thank you for your continued support.
Just The Way You Are Assembly
Dr. Paul Stuart Wichansky, a Freehold Township resident and a 1983 LDS alumnus, has been invited to help inspire students at our 50th anniversary celebration day. Dr. Paul is a motivational speaker and author who has triumphed over cerebral palsy and a hearing loss. For nearly 38 years, since age 10, he has hosted school assemblies, parent workshops, and conference keynotes in 22 U.S. states on the topics of disability awareness, character education, anti-bullying, building self-confidence, and overcoming adversity. He shares those experiences that have allowed him to reach a dream he has had for many years -- to learn to walk -- as he was in a wheelchair for the first seven years of his life. (He can walk close to normally these days!)
These assemblies help instill in children and teens the courage and confidence to excel in their studies; treat their peers with respect; develop character and resiliency that are the hallmarks of leadership; and be motivated to realize their own goals and dreams. We have also invited Dr. Paul's former LDS teachers to attend his assemblies and join in the celebration day. The 9:15am assembly will be to grades K-2 (30 minutes) followed by a 10:00am assembly to grades 3-5 (45-50 minutes) on May 1st, 2019.
More information about Dr. Paul can be found at his website www.justthewayyouare.com
A special thank you to Dr Paul for "gifting" this assembly in honor of his educational foundation here at Laura Donovan School and the 50th Anniversary celebration!
