Here is a link for a side-by-side look at the first draft of the 2018 Dyslexia Handbook and the final draft of the 2018 Dyslexia Handbook which was approved by State Board of Education on November 15th. The orange version is the final draft. Look for the highlighting to call attention to the changes between the two drafts:

What is the possibility of this?
On my way to a district for a dyslexia workshop, my tire pressure declined from 36 lbs. of air to 8 lbs. in a matter of seconds. Immediately, I pulled over and nervously opened the door of the car to go out and assess the damage when I noticed a truck pulling up behind the car faster than I could even stand up. The most polite man quickly offered his expertise and eagerly toiled to repair the situation as he remarked casually that his wife was a teacher in Crane who visited Region 18 occasionally for professional development. I could not believe his remark when I asked what his wife taught, “She is the GT and dyslexia teacher, he replied, and immediately I knew that I was conversing with Mr. Streety, Coleen’s benevolent husband.
I have always known that my students and the teachers of Region 18 possess heroic qualities, and now I am certain that at least one teacher’s spouse is somewhat of an angel.
Thank you, Mr. Streety, for your unselfish service on that sunny, summer morning. Thank you, dyslexia therapists and teachers of dyslexic students, for all of the herculean service that you provide for your students. Thank you, dear students, for gracing this world with gifts which make it a much more diverse, interesting, entertaining, artistic, understanding, and brilliant planet.
P.S. Before I even got back to the office, I had the sweetest email from Coleen inquiring about my safe arrival. I am truly thankful.
A Final Shout-out
One of our Region 18 dyslexia team members, Cinda Muench from Marfa, has been waging a valiant battle with cancer for several months now. She has been teaching, testing, and caring for her students all along the way, and will be continuing chemotherapy throughout the holidays. I know that she would appreciate a word of encouragement and positivity:
We are with you, Cinda!
Please let us know…
If there is anything that we can do to support you, we truly look forward to hearing from you!
