Congratulations are in order for last year's 2020-2021 HGHS Yearbook Staff! The Echo 2021 yearbook earned a designation of Honorable Mention in Balfour’s 36th edition of The Yearbook Yearbook. The 2022 Yearbook Yearbook showcases exceptional work in theme development, design, and photography from publications across the U.S. and overseas.

VBC Information for Seniors

Seniors will report to the East Hall of the VBC by 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday, May 24th and return to the same East Hall by 2:00 p.m. that afternoon. You should enter the front of the building, and you will be required to walk through the metal detectors. We will line up in the East Hall and then process over to the Arena at 2:30 p.m. Do not leave any belongings behind in the East Hall. When graduation is over we will exit out the Skate Lobby doors (between rows 218-221) to pick up diplomas, and you will not be allowed to return inside. There will be no videos sold of the ceremony, but it will be live streamed and remain available after. You will be directed to the mcssk12.org/live site for viewing. Make sure to review the dress code for graduation, as it will be strictly enforced with NO EXCEPTIONS. As always, if you need assistance with clothing needs, please see a staff member BEFORE arriving at the VBC. We will not have options there.

Yearbook Distribution Update

The yearbooks are estimated to arrive in late June. Once the books are delivered to campus, a distribution event will be organized and advertised.

Trojanettes/Dance Team Tryouts

Graduation Rehearsal at VBC: Senior Graduation Practice/Rehearsal is at the VBC on May 24, 2022. We need all graduates lined up in the East Hall by 8:30 a.m. so we can begin practice at 8:45 a.m. Please arrive early and go to the East Hall--not the Arena.


No Graduation Videos Available: The HGHS Graduation ceremony will be live-streamed via YouTube, but there will be no videos available for purchase. We are sorry for the confusion. This information has been updated in the document attached above (Graduation Notes for Seniors 2022).


Name Pronunciation for Graduation: Make sure your name is said CORRECTLY at graduation. Mrs. Brady has index cards outside her room (N120) or you can email her at ebrady@madison.k12.al.us to help her say your name correctly. Please provide a breakdown of how your LEGAL NAME is pronounced. Your whole name will be announced and printed for graduation. For example, LeAnna--is it Lee-an-uh or Lay-ahh-nuh; Jesus--is it Hay-suess or Geez-us. You can also just stop by her room!

You can pay class fees and other school fees online by following these instructions for MySchoolFees.


Online Application for Free/Reduced Meals: Online free and reduced meal applications are available at the link below for a faster, more confidential way to apply. A new application must be completed each school year to qualify for free or reduced meals. Your child's eligibility status carries over to the new school year for the first 30 school days, allowing parents time to re-apply. Only one application per household should be submitted, and everyone living in the house must be included on the application.

Check-Out Procedures:

*Please go to door #44 at the back of the school (near the Trojan statue and courtyard) for all check outs. No check outs are done through the front office. Remembering this will save you some time when you arrive to check out your student.

  • Students drop check-out notes in the basket on the attendance clerk’s desk before 8:30 in the morning.
  • Notes will be verified by the attendance clerk prior to the time of check-out.
  • Check-out notes need the following information:
    • Student’s first and last name (printed)
    • Time of check-out
    • Reason for check-out
    • Parent’s signature
    • Parent’s contact information

Without a parent note, no student will be allowed to check out unless a parent/guardian comes to the Attendance Office to check out the student. Parent notes must be turned in to the Attendance Office before 8:30 a.m. No phone or email checkouts will be allowed. The only exception will be if the school nurse determines that a student is sick and needs to go home. The school nurse will then contact the parent/guardian and the Attendance Office.

*Please remember that we do not allow walk-in check outs after 3:00 p.m.
