Carruth House

Whangarei Boys' High School Term 1 Edition 2 2019

Big picture

Term 1 finished already; where has it gone?

Time certainly flies when you are having fun, and Carruth House is no exception! This half term, as a hostel, we have been looking at our school values of Tika and Pono (Honesty and Integrity). In our discussions, these are the principles of action by which we exercise tapu and mana. If one wants to have mana, one must first seek after tapu. To possess tapu one must exercise tika and pono. We have been having some great discussions.

I had the privilege to visit Great Barrier Island a week ago and speak with all the parents of Year 8s. With no secondary school (or mains power) on the island, they all have to attend secondary school on the mainland. We will also be touring around Northland primary schools on 6th-7th May and you may have seen our advertising in local papers and on the radio. It's ALL ON!!! Our Open Evening is on Wednesday 22nd May from 5:30pm. If you know of anybody who is interested in boarding at Carruth House in 2020, please tell them to get in touch with me.

Do enjoy the holiday break with Easter in the middle, and we look forward to seeing everybody on Sunday 28th April when we reopen at 4pm.

Kind regards

Ian Rowe

Director of Boarding

Meet the Carruth House Parent Rep - Leigh Asknew

As your Parent Representative, I am interested in feedback from parents about all aspects of Carruth House. I am particularly interested in your ideas about facilities and how we can improve things. I meet regularly with the Carruth Management Committee and we are always keen to hear your opinions.
