Friel Trip to the MoMA
First graders got to experience great works of art at the MoMA.
Students discussed what they saw and imagined themselves in the paintings. We hope you enjoyed seeing their sketches. Please look in your child's homework folder for a Free Family Pass to the MoMA!
Math this Week
This week in math we continued our exploration of place value by using the base ten blocks and the 30, 50, and 100 mat from the game Roll Tens. Students shared different counting strategies to figure out How Many Cubes: Elms counted by tens and use different combinations to help them count more efficiently. Students also considered the greater than and less than symbols to compare two digit numbers.
Things to Try at Home:
Pick a two digit number. Ask your child to:
- draw or tell how many tens and how many ones make up the number
-what would happen if I added 10 to this number?
-what would happen if I subtracted 10?
Elm's are working so hard to publish their stories! Students have been carefully revising and editing with blue and orange color pencils to make their writing even better. Students who finished revising/editing chose to rewrite their stories using Flair Pens and color pencils to illustrate their drawings. We are going to have such beautiful books!
