What a spectacular sports day the children experienced on Thursday! Many thanks to the PE team who always put on an exceptional day for everyone. Thank you parents for your involvement in helping make this a fun morning for everyone.

This week the focus has been on the children sorting pictures of buildings into past and present. Questions such as: 'Why do we say it’s in the past or present? How can we find out? What are the similarities and differences of buildings in the past and present?' were raised and discussed. The children noticed that over time the materials as well as the design of the buildings have changed.

Next week we will be looking at specific vocabulary that relates to the passing of time. The children will be encouraged to use words such yesterday, today, tomorrow, before, now and after.

The children began writing their 'How to..' books this week. They first spent some time outdoors practising some of the activities they are good at. These included, hula hoops, balancing, basketball, tennis etc. This helped them think about the steps needed to explain how to do this particular activity. While some of the children chose to write about their favourite hobby (eg. baking) others chose to write about the activity they practiced outside.

In handwriting the children learnt the correct formation for the letter 'z'. Next week they will begin writing numerals.

The children have spent the week familiarising themselves with the symbols we use for subtraction problems. We have spoken about different vocabulary such as minus, subtraction and take away. The equal sign was also explored again and we used our number bonds to solve some tricky take away problems. Next week we will continue with this concept.
