Objectives of the week:
Demonstrates knowledge of the alphabet
Compares and measures
Demonstrates emergent writing skills
Dear Parents,
This week we worked on investigations to expand their ideas, find answers to questions, and learning important skills and concepts connected to the features of clothes. We discussed different sizes in clothing, and shapes that we see in clothes. Students discovered letters, numbers, buttons, colors, patterns and even images/drawings!
During the week, there were different things in all our centers, and everyone was so excited and engaged! We always have a new game available, from button practice, to zipper, to letter matching clothes, patterns, and memory games. In literacy, students were making their ABC book and they had so much fun designing their own caps.
At Home
At home you can examine fabrics together, and discuss how clothes are made. Look at labels and find out where the clothes were made. Look at pictures from the past and note how the clothing differs from clothing today.
Coming Up
Next week, we will move on to our Investigation 2: How do we take care of our clothes?
We will explore the different types of soaps; liquid, bar, powder. We will describe the process of separating light and dark colored clothing before washing them.
You can talk about this with your child at home, so they are ready to share their ideas
Objective: Shows curiosity and motivation
Melissa designed her own halloween skirt/ Naia, Riley and Cecilia were sharing their clothes/ Cristina shared a book about clothes
Math in action
Patterns and more
During Circle time, we played a game called "I Have, Who Has?" Clothing and Color Match Game
To begin the game, we gave each student one card. The first student "read" his/her card, and asked the question written at the bottom of the card. For example, “ Who has a green scarf? I have a green scarf” Student with the matching green scarf on their card stood up and created a crazy dance.

More about International day
Dear Parents,
Every year the International school of panama celebrates international week and more specifically United Nations day. This year we will celebrate it on Wednesday October 19th, 2016. This event celebrates the countries and cultures of all students and faculty members. This gives students from different countries an opportunity to introduce and share their traditions and customs with fellow students.
This year everyone in Pre-K is going to take a “Trip around the world!” Each classroom will be representing a culturally rich and “green” (ecological) country. PK4.1 will represent Austria!
On Wednesday, we will start the day together, so we can all get to see and appreciate our national dress/clothes. We will then “take off” with our passports to all the countries. We will rotate in all 4 classes. We will go back to our classroom to end our celebration with a parade and our cultural banquet.
What should you do?
1. Send your child on Wednesday October 19, 2016 wearing their national dress/clothes. If not your child can also come wearing a jersey from the country, or wear colors of the flag they represent.
2. Cultural Banquet: We will need your help for us to have our cultural banquet. Our Homeroom mom is going to organize this. If you could let her know via email what traditional dish you will be sharing with the class. You are invited to join us at 11:00 for the cultural banquet that will be taking place in our classroom. If you will not be able to join us, you can send the dish with your child in the morning.
3. Dismissal Changes: If you will be joining us on this day and will take your child with you, make sure you go to the elementary office to get the transportation slip before coming to our classroom to avoid confusion and rush during dismissal time.
Thank you in advance for your support and collaboration.
