Congratulations and Welcome!

We are very happy for Calli and Kristin and we wish them all the best on their new adventures in Title I and Title III positions! We also congratulate Jill Higgins as she moves into Calli's Title 1 position. Finally we welcome Jody Jordan and Mari Hefner as they move into our 2nd grade and Kindergarten positions. Jody was a 5th grade teacher and literacy coach in LaPorte prior to coming to Central as a Title I aide. We are thankful she decided to move into 2nd grade! Mari has taught both Kindergarten and 2nd grade for 15 years in Lake Station and has a husband, Matt, who teaches at the high school. We welcome her to Central and look forward to working with her as she transitions into Kristin's Kindergarten position. All of our shuffling is subject to school board approval at the September 17th board meeting. As I'm sure you can imagine, this is a challenging time to have to transition. I appreciate all that Calli, Kristin, and Jill are doing to ensure Jody and Mari are good to go by their official September 21st start date. We will miss you, Calli and Kristin! Welcome to the Central family, Jody and Mari! Exciting times!

Renaissance Place Update

The following information came from Chris Clifford on Saturday:

It's finally here! Teachers and students with existing RenPlace accounts will use the same credentials as they used last year.

The login names and initial passwords for new teachers will be the first letter of their first name + full last name (for both username and initial password)

New students will login with their normal 7/8 digit Username (elocker login name) and, for the moment, the password abc

New students may be prompted to change their password. If they do, please have them set it to their standard five letter password.

We are working on a 'fix' for the new student passwords, but students may use the program now.

Data Unpacking Days

Jill, Calli, Vickie, and I will be meeting with grade levels 1-5 Thursday and Friday to discuss out RtI students and the tiers they were at by the end of last school year. This will help teachers discuss strategies and progress monitoring data to best plan for our students.

The Color Run

Have you signed up for the race? Have you offered to volunteer or sought out a sponsorship from a business? If not, please do. Our students and PTA need our support! Jenn Campbell would like to start a competition among classrooms to see who can get the most participants. Be on the lookout for more details in the near future about this competition soon. If you haven't checked out the website yet, click on the button below. Thanks for supporting our students and our school!

Thought for the Week

"Teaching and learning should bring joy. How powerful would our world be if we had kids who were not afraid to take risks, who were not afraid to think, and who had a champion? Every child deserves a champion, an adult who will never give up on them, who understands the power of connection, and insists that they become the best that they can possibly be. Is this job tough? You betcha. Oh yes, you betcha. But it is not impossible. We can do this. We're educators. We're born to make a difference." -Rita Pierson
