HOPPY EASTER and start to "Spring Break"! We hope your Easter eggs made it home safe and sound! The 5th grade dyed eggs on Wednesday with the gracious help of the Trumpolt Family! These eggs will last forever unless they get cracked. They were decorated using furniture glue and coloring paste.
The 5th grade did an absolute amazing job at the concert on Tuesday! It was awesome seeing them get into a western character! Please if you get a second thank Ms. Chatfield. Not only did she take on the whole K-5 with singing, she did dancing with it! It was a great performance by all!
Another busy week! Besides dying Easter eggs, we swam as a kick off to break as well as had an academic egg hunt in the library since the weather did not cooperate.
Jump Rope for Heart money should be all turned in! IF you have any other donations, please be sure they get turned in asap.
Iowa Assessments are just around the corner! (The dates are April 4th through the 8th. Make-up tests will be the following week.) 5th grade will be having 2 Math tests, 2 Reading tests, 1 Social Studies test and 1 Science test. Please make sure your students are getting plenty of rest each night. With at least 6 tests, we will have at least one test if not two per day. We would like to have snacks brought in for each day so they can keep their stamina throughout the day. If you are interested in contributing to the snacks for the week, please email your child's teacher.
Our trip to the Capitol and the Museum have been set for Friday, April 15th. We will leave at around 8:30am. This day all students will need to have a sack lunch. If you need to buy one from the cafeteria, please let us know by April 1st. Also we will not be getting back from the trip until about 4:30pm. Information was passed out at PLP's. Let us know if you need another copy.
In social studies, we have taken our eyes into the lives of the first American settlements from England and are looking closer at the 3 geographic areas/colonies of the New England, Middle and Southern Colonies. We will be making billboards next week to convince other settlers to come to our colony. In reading, we focused on reading expository text using our Social Studies book as our resource. Next week we will start writing our own persuasive articles! In math, we are knee deep in adding and subtracting mixed numbers. Students can get on IXL L.18 and M.8 to help solidify their learning!
Learning Goals:
Social Studies: I can understand why people travelled from England to start a new colony in America. We will focus on the New England, Middle and Southern Colonies.
Reading: I can identify compare and contrast text structure in a non-fiction text.
Writing: I can brainstorm things that bug me and want to do something to persuade.
