Past Imperfect: African American History in the Movies
AAST 300.04 (CRN 14108)
Tuesdays, 4 - 6:45pm
The objective: to take a critical look at scripted dramatic narratives in film and television that depict events, issues and individuals pertaining to African American history. This is an introductory course that will take a closer look at sweeping biographies, epic dramas, to made-for-television potboilers. Course includes screenings, discussions, and required reading.
Black Women Film Directors
AAST 300.05 (CRN 14109)
Wednesdays, 4 - 6:45pm
The objective: to critically examine the films, aesthetics, social-political voice, and contributions of selected Black female film directors. This course will be an overview of black female filmmakers who have been active since the early part of the 20th century. Films made by Black women include animation, documentary, experimental and narrative.
