Literacy Learning
Next week students will review sight words, story elements, writing using a combination of dictating, drawing, and writing to tell about an event, and numerous math skills. We will be previewing the winter season and reading snow stories.
Continue to read with your child over the break! Review those sight words and stretching out CVC words. If you read a book, discuss the setting, characters, problem and solution. The best way to get students thinking about their reading is to write about it! This is a great time for students to practice stretching out words.
Math Memo:
We will continue our review of math skills taught this year. Specifically, our review will focus on ordinal numbers (first, second, third, fourth, fifth, etc) as well as counting by 1's and 10's to 100. Many children can count very high, but get confused when they hit 80 and 90. Make a game of counting to 100 by having your child count while you are waiting in line somewhere!
Please practice coins with your child! He/she must be able to correctly identify the coins by name and value. Use the study guide attached to practice. Try printing it, out, cutting the boxes apart, and playing coin memory with the cards!
When we return in January, we will focus on shapes!
