The Great Wide Open

One of the reasons to love open water swimming is that your technique does not have to be as precise as in the pool. You don't have to worry about having a high elbow recovery, pointing your fingers down, streamlining off the wall or rotating to an exact science. Also there are no worries about making an interval or comparing your time. Not having to be perfect can feel so liberating! Swimming out in the open you have the opportunity to go with whatever nature gives you. Relax and let your body adapt to the conditions. Your arms can pull wider. The salt water will aide your buoyancy making your legs stay higher in the water. Breathe comfortably, don't lift more than necessary. Utilize the elements to your advantage. In open water, flow with the conditions: punch the chop, harness the lift, and adjust your tempo to match the swells. Practice making adaptations in your stroke by swimming with us. And most important take a moment to enjoy the great wide open!
