Straight from the Students: What Makes a Great Teacher

May is always an exciting time!

May is such a busy month for educators. As we are nearing the end of another instructional year, we begin to gear up for another! May is a vital month to reflect on and refine practices. This month's professional learning opportunities include numerous sessions to plan for the upcoming year.

Eight Mind Frames - Making Powerful Impacts in Schools

Author and researcher, John Hattie, has synthesized over 500,000 studies focused on student achievement. His research, in his book Visible Learning, showed that teachers can make a difference despite circumstances that may impede learning. Hattie found that most teachers have some degree of impact on student learning; however, some educators have much more impact than others. Hattie claims that the powerful impacts of these teachers relate to how they think - the mind frames that underpin their actions and decisions. Take a look at the video below.

ELA/SS Curriculum Map development (3rd grade)

ELA and SS representatives from all elementary schools, grade 3, will review GSE standards, discuss research based reading strategies, classroom expectations and rigor. Teams will begin development of ELA and SS pacing guides to be implemented for the 2017-18 school year.


May 11, 2017

Social Studies Curriculum Map Development (8th grade)

Social Studies representatives from all middle schools, grades 8, will meet to develop a district pacing guide.


May 12, 2017

ELA/SS Curriculum Map development (4th grade)
