3rd grade Class

Miss Sumpter's Awesome Updates

Time is Flying!

I want to start by saying Thank you so much for all of my sweet Christmas presents, they really made me smile and feel appreciated. I can not believe that we are nearing the end of the second nine weeks. I feel like just yesterday, I was meeting my kiddies for the first time. This school year is going by super fast, but it is truly amazing to watch the children grow and mature physically as well as academically. Please remind your child that we are close to the end of the nine weeks (January 21) and to keep in mind the goals they set for themselves. Third grade is becoming more challenging and it is important that they continue to stay confident.

We will be starting a novel study on Charlotte's Web this week. This novel study will be filled with a lot of reading strategies. I know that this will be a fun unit of inquiring and learning for us. Please ask questions about what we are learning within the book. Like always, be sure that your child is reading at home. The only way for them to improve is to read a lot of books inside as well as outside of the classroom.

The Information Books are Finished!!! I will be scoring them and sending them home soon. We worked really hard on these, and I hope that you will be impressed. This week we will be starting our Feature Article on a place in South Carolina. Each student chose a place that they know a lot of information about. The topics ranged from houses to The Riverbank Zoo. We will research briefly and begin drafting the articles this week.

Multiplication Facts, Multiplication Facts! Please make sure that multiplication facts are practiced daily at home. These facts will be the foundation of math skills for years to come. It is my hope that every student walks out of my classroom and knows their facts from 0-12. Chapter 7 is a very brief chapter and we will not be doing every lesson. We started last Thursday, and I will be testing Chapter 7 on Friday. This will include the Vocabulary words for the chapter.

We are at the end of the Sound Unit in Science. The Unit Test will be on Thursday. The Study guide will be sent home today and is due on Wednesday. Please be sure your child is studying at home. Next week we will be moving to Force and Motion.

SC History

This week we will be starting on how the Government in South Carolina was established. We will also start talking about the three branches of government.
