Updates from our Principal
Good Afternoon Firebird Nation,
It is so hard to believe today is the end of 3rd quarter. This year is going by so quickly. The students have grown so much. I am so incredibly proud to see what they are doing and what they will continue to do throughout the remainder of the school year.
Play rehearsals have begun in full force. Next week, Mr. Guerra and Ms. Van Hecke will be holding interviews for stage crew. Wednesday night were choir concerts for 6th -8th grade. They did an amazing job! Thursday night our boys’ basketball team played Horizon Middle School at home. A, B, and C teams swept them. Great job boys!!
Today our students in our Partners in PE class participated in an Adapted Basketball Tournament. All the student athletes had peer partners that played with them and helped them while on the court. The rules were modified so that everyone could partake in the game no matter their ability level. Athletes and their partners did a fabulous job and played their best during every game! During the first round our A and B team each played 4 games. We won some and lost some. Then it was time for the tournament! Our B team was eliminated during the first round but our A team went on to win the Middle School Championship!! The students were so proud of their hard work and were super excited to bring home the title of Middle School Champions!! Thank you to Sarah Brockberg for organizing this event! And thank you to Coach Morris for teaching our students the skills they needed to win!! What a great day!
CMAS Testing will take place in April when we come back after spring break. Beginning April 5th, each grade level will test each week. It will be important for students to try their best so that we get a good picture of where they are academically. Our teachers and students have worked so hard this year and I am excited to see how our students perform! CMAS is also one way students can show a demonstration of mastery that is now required as a part of Colorado Graduation Requirements for High School. Student performance on these tests now can also help students advance more quickly through their high school work and look at free college classes, internship opportunities, work force credentials in high school sooner! I wish I had all of these opportunities when I was in school...they are really beneficial for our students today!
Have a great weekend,
Mrs. Elena Forehand
Interim Principal

In this week's Empower FZ video, sixth graders Giselle and Bernice talk about their learning plans in Mr. Weber's CLDE class. Each student in Mr. Weber's class has a learning plan specific to their own personal goals for English proficiency in the areas of Reading, Writing, Speaking and Listening. Great job, Bernice and Giselle!

From Mrs. Siemsen - Choice & Success
What a busy time of year for the Choice and Success Program here at Falcon Middle School! Due to several work-based learning site visits being cancelled last month because of weather, many activities are happening in March!
On Tuesday, this week nine 8th Grade FMS students visited the Peyton Automotive program and learned how hands on experiences prepare them for the work world as a mechanic. Several certifications can be obtained in HS prior to graduation!
If your student was going on the Microchip visit it has been rescheduled for May 5th...so mark your calendars!
It's a joy and a privilege to work with the FMS students in planning for their future academic and career advancement. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions about the Choice and Success Program.

Firebird Nation Campus Expansion
Our Firebird Nation Campus construction continues to move rapidly. The new athletic locker rooms have all of the lockers installed. The gym floor has arrived and will begin getting installed next week. Some of the classrooms will receive their final paint coat next week as well, which means those areas are a final clean away from getting a walkthrough. Our campus committee is beginning the process to meet and determine many of the operational and logistical pieces that will take place with our campus overall. We will share more on that as things are determined.
