Gregg at Claxton
2016-2017
December 4, 2016
Students have been learning about bar and pictographs and have samples in their homework folders. We collected data on individually chosen questions today. Students need to make a poster of a bar graph or pictograph. If you child cannot get poster board, please let me know and I’ll make a run to Staples. We will create the rough draft of the poster at school and all students will need to do at home is make the work neat, colorful, and creative if they’d like. (One year, a student made a pictograph of favorite pets and used dog biscuits as the symbol for the pictograph.) This assignment will give students the opportunity to share their creative selves.
I’ve also reworked Class Dojo to reflect the 7 Habits and the classroom expectations. Please review these with your child. We’ve had a difficult few weeks with excessive talking and students forgetting to complete work or bring it to school. I believe it is probably Holiday Fever at work!
I hope you can attend Claxton’s Holiday lunch (12/14) and/or our Holiday party (12/19). More information will be coming soon about our party. It will be not only a party but an opportunity for students to share what they’ve learned about people and the holidays they celebrate in other parts of the world (and right here in Asheville, too).
Thank you,
Holly

Notes:
Thanks to the 5th Grade team for the framework of this form. It has been extremely difficult for everyone to learn the last several weeks due to excessive talking (ie, talking over one another, talking over the teacher, talking over the specialists). Hopefully, students will become more aware of their Dojo points each day and work to keep points instead of losing them if they know there is a consequence of which you'll be notified. If you need another code to access your child's dojo points, please let me know!
Classroom Expectations are the rules the children came up with to show they're Attentive, Responsible, Thoughtful and Safe. They are below:
Class Rules 2016-2017
Developed by the students in Ms. Gregg’s class
Attentive:
I will listen with my eyes and ears.
I will sit still with my hands to myself.
I will raise my hand before speaking.
Responsible:
I will complete assignments.
I will turn in my work.
I will keep up with my belongings
I will take care of materials.
I will walk on the right side of the hall at Code 0.
I will keep my hands to myself.
Thoughtful:
I will listen.
I will help others.
I will be kind.
I will use polite language.
I will think before I speak.
Safe:
I will follow directions.
I will think before I act.
Your children are amazing and bright.Just like you, I want them to be the best they can be. Thanks for reading all of this and supporting your children so wonderfully.
