Why Long Hair
We often see pictures of Native peoples with long hair. There is a cultural tradition that inspires the long hair. Interestingly, the tradition requires family members to cut their hair when one of them dies. The hair is then offered to the deceased. It was believed that once we die, we fly, as a bird, to our resting place. The hair, it was believed, turned into feathers to help with the flight. This may be why Native Americans often wore feathers in their hair for decoration.
