Black History Month

Big picture
February is Black History Month and students at Daniel Wright have been participating in many curriculum-aligned activities to learn about the history and accomplishments of black Americans.

Students are studying African American literature, music and art, in addition to well known African Americans in science, medicine, law, and politics. Students also enjoyed a virtual assembly with former Cubs player and Hall of Fame inductee, Andre Dawson.

Understanding TeacherEase

Have you checked out the latest parent resource for reviewing Daniel Wright student assignment marks and homework completion? Shortly after school got underway in August, parents should have received an email from TeacherEase that explained how the platform works and how families can review homework assignments and grades. The email was sent to the primary parent contact as listed in Unified Classroom. Unified Classroom provides families with students’ final grades while TeacherEase updates families along the way on how a student is progressing in a given subject matter. For questions about TeacherEase, please reach out to DW_FamilyTechSupport@d103.org for assistance with logon issues. For questions regarding assignments, please email the teacher directly.

Parent-Teacher Conferences

Our Winter Remote Parent-Teacher Conferences via Zoom are scheduled from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. and 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 24 and Thursday, Feb. 25 from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Conference scheduling in our PTC Wizard system will open Tuesday, Feb. 16, at 10:00 a.m. and close on Monday, Feb. 22, at 11:55 p.m. Watch for more information on conference scheduling next week.

Reporting Student Absences

Please be aware that because we are in a pandemic, if you call your student in for an absence, we need specific details as to why your child is not attending school. Unfortunately at this time, we can not accept messages that just state that the student will not be in school. If the information is medically sensitive in nature, please contact the school nurse directly. We understand that there are alternative, non-illness related reasons for absences that occur, but because of the current pandemic situation, we need to know that is the case for the absence in order to ensure the continuing health and safety of the students and school staff. Please report absence to 847-604-5280 or Dw_attendance@d103.org.

Orphans of the Storm Fundraiser

Wright Way Club's fundraiser runs through Wednesday, Feb. 24. Orphans of the Storm goes through over 100 newspapers each day! Your support would greatly help out!!!

Eighth-Grade Scholarship

The D103 Learning Fund Foundation provides a scholarship opportunity for Daniel Wright eighth-graders. A $2,500 scholarship will be awarded to a qualifying eighth–grader in memory of former parent Dawn Anderson.

The Dawn Anderson Scholarship was established in honor of Dawn Anderson who passed away in 2017. While her children progressed through the District 103 school system, Dawn followed them, volunteering for any and every school or teacher-based project available. Motivated by her love of children, Dawn continued volunteering after her children moved on in their education. To honor her legacy, the Learning Fund Foundation established the scholarship to recognize a D103 graduating eighth–grade student who displays a passion for volunteering and serving others. This $2,500 award must be used for education at a post–secondary school. For more information, please visit the Learning Fund Foundation's scholarship website page. The deadline to apply is Saturday, April 10, 2021. Please contact the foundation at lff+anderson21@d103.org with questions.
