Digital Report Cards

For the first time in the Shamong district, paper copies of report cards will not be sent home with the students; instead, report cards will be available online through the Realtime Parent Portal. Upon logging onto the Parent Portal, under “Menu” on the far left side of the screen, click on the link that says “GRADES” and you will be able to view the first marking period report card. We are hopeful this added use of technology will be a convenience to you and your family.

If you need your Parent Portal login information, please contact the main office. .

Thank You to our Veterans!

The staff at IMS is grateful for our veterans. Coordinated by Mrs. Clementi and Mrs. Haines, our military families were welcomed into our cafeteria to enjoy a breakfast put together by the staff. We thank veterans for their bravery and their sacrifices.

Mrs. Frascella and Mrs. Goldstein enjoyed celebrating Halloween with their classes. On November 21, Preschool will be hosting a Thanksgiving Feast. Students will be preparing a delicious meal to share with their families.

Mrs. Amacher, Mrs. Gibbons, Mrs. Mendez, Mrs. Rinker, and Mrs. Trauger are grateful for the parents that made their Halloween parties so much fun! Last month, our kindergarten students learned about fire safety when the Shamong Fire Department came for a visit. The teachers also appreciate your support at home. They are looking forward to speaking with their parents at conference time.

First Grade

Last month, to enhance their Sky Watchers science unit, the first graders had a visit from Mr. Bernie Hosko. He brought his sun-safe telescope and the students had the opportunity to view the sun through it! First grade will also visit the Edelman Planetarium in December as a follow up to our science unit. This month the students and their families worked together on a family turkey project.

Second Grade

The 2nd graders have had some guest speakers come in to share their personal experiences with them and build on their classroom learning. First, a retired Philadelphia fire fighter came in to talk about his work. The students were able to ask questions about his past job and see his fire fighting gear. As part of their current Social Studies unit, the 2nd graders were visited by Shamong Board of Education member, Mrs. Ehrke. She talked with our classes about her position, why she volunteers, and the decisions that the Board makes for its students.

Third Grade

In third grade we are currently reading the Journey's story Pop's Bridge by Eve Bunting. In correlation with the story all classes completed a STEM challenge where students built bridges out of gum drops and toothpicks that needed to support the weight of 120 pennies.

Fourth Grade

In fourth grade we have been exploring character traits and what it means to be a role model in school. As the first marking period came to a close, the fourth graders were asked to reflect on these traits and identify students who consistently exhibited these characteristics. Two students will be elected and honored from each class for their exemplary behavior.

Ms. Babbitt- Media Specialist

We are very excited about the new Maker Space located in the back of our media center. The students at IMS are enjoying exploring the different activities.

Mrs. Clementi- IMAGE

Fourth grade IMAGE students are STEM BUDDIES with Mrs. Goldstein’s preschoolers. Here they are describing and observing the inside of a pumpkin.

Ms. Martin- Music

The 3rd and 4th grade Chorus and Orff Ensemble students have been hard at work. Please mark your calendars for the Chorus and Orff Ensemble Concert on Wednesday, December 5th at 6:30 PM!

The music room is a place of many movement activities including steady beat motions, creative movement, and folk dancing. Please remind your child to wear sneakers on music day.

Mrs. Bryan- Computers

In computer class, the students have been busy learning new skills and building on old ones. The 4th graders designed posters using Google Slides that share good digital citizenship. They are holding elections this week using Google Forms to pick one poster from each classroom that best represents the idea. Look for the winning posters to be printed and posted outside the computer lab in the coming weeks.

Mr. McIntyre- P.E.

Over the next two weeks, in health class, we will be discussing nutrition in light of the Thanksgiving holiday. While in the gym, we will continue our fitness assessments. The Pre-K, Kindergarten, and First Grade students are working on tossing and catching.

Mrs. Duboff and Mrs. Haines-RTI

Mrs. DuBoff and Mrs. Haines are scheduling individual conferences with parents to discuss their students’ progress. Please schedule conferences with them by November 21st. They will make every effort to accommodate parent requests. Parents will be notified of the exact time and day of their children’s conferences.

All K-4 students are invited to join the Six Flags Read to Succeed Six Hour Reading Club by completing six hours, or 360 minutes, of recreational reading. Reading logs will be sent home in December. Students can read books, magazines, newspapers, eBooks, audiobooks, and/or comic books and record their minutes on the Student Reading Log to earn one FREE Six Flags admission ticket for the 2019 season. Logs need to be completed, signed by a parent or guardian, and returned by Tuesday, February 19th to earn a free admission ticket. Look for your student's Six Flags letter and Student Reading Log, and start reading! Logs can be returned to the classroom teachers as soon as they are completed and signed by a parent or guardian. Please remember to calculate the minutes and sign the form before returning the logs.
