Montessori Moment...
Have you ever wondered how our special area teachers incorporate Montessori into their classrooms? All of our amazing specialists root their classroom practices in Montessori principles and do incredible things with children. At our next "branches" meeting, Shivaun, our art teacher extraordinaire, will share about how she integrates Montessori in the art room. Mark your calendars for April 28th and come out to watch Shivaun's "Montessori Moment."

Traveling Zoo
The Brandywine Zoo came to FSMA on Friday to give our K/1 students a hands-on learning experience with animals from Africa and Australia. They brought animals, shared animal artifacts, and informed our students about the characteristics and habits of these creatures. I think the instructor was surprised by our student's extensive background knowledge, especially when one child asked "What part of Australia is that animal from - the desert, savanna or rain forest?" And, one of the children's favorite items was a giant snake skin.
Downtown Visions
FSMA students are a part of the downtown community and are always looking for opportunities to visit local places. One thing that makes this possible, is a resource called Downtown Visions. Whenever FSMA has an event or our children travel throughout the city, we call this group and the "people in the yellow jackets" show up to help us. They walk with us and make sure we get to our destination safely - we are so appreciative of this service! In addition to safety, they also work to keep our city clean. If you see them out and about, please tell them how much we appreciate their service!
Wilmington Library
Did you know that each week some of our 4th, 5th, and 6th graders visit the Wilmington Library? Getting out into our community and utilizing this local resource is having a big impact on our students. The Wilmington library provides access to a huge variety of resources, offers time to meet with experts, and often provides a different experience than a school library. Our students have found quiet spaces to read there and have learned how to utilize different resources. We encourage children to share about the Wilmington Library as a way for them to give back.
