The Scoop
Special Services Update - October 17, 2022
Communication, The Scoop & You!
There may be a lot of information in the SCOOP that you are responsible for knowing. We want to limit all the separate group emails, so we condense most of our communication into this newletter for you and for easy reference to go back and find. Please be sure and read each edition of the Scoop carefully and let us know if you have any questions.
Have a great week!
~Keri

October is Physical Therapy Month Thank you Whitnee Drake & Cindy Gunn #Wonderful Support #TISDCelebratesPTMonth - #TISDGameChangers
In celebration of Physical Therapy Month, let’s catch our campus teams in the act of “Safe Handling” - . Many paraprofessional staff and special education teachers participated in “Safe Handling” training during the August District Collaborative Day.
Safe Handling is so very important for our campus teams to keep in the forefront of their minds as it is the little things that we do in a day that prevent the “oh my aching back” or the incidences of work related injuries.
Let’s catch Safe Handling in ACTION!
Use Five Key Actions of Safe Handling for additional information on each safe handling action. To provide evidence of “Catching” an action, tweet a picture or a story of what you observed.
Weeks of October 17-28
Catch Good Body Mechanics, Communicate Before, During and After the Lift, or Strengthen the Core in Action
Points per Social Media Post: 2

Fine-tune accommodations to meet individual needs of students with ADHD
ADHD is a learning disability which presents itself differently in every student, and students with ADHD may be eligible under the IDEA under the other health impairment category.
A student eligible under the "other health impairment" category may need an IEP to address the different educational and functional needs that result from the ADHD. 34 CFR 300.8 (c)(9). Because ADHD presents itself differently in every student, IEP teams will need to adjust accommodations depending on the individual needs of the student. Students with ADHD might have a variety of processing issues from auditory, sensory, language, and executive functioning.
