BE A SHARK!
BE A SHARK PARENT SURVEY RESULTS
Thank you to the nearly 400 parents who completed our 1st semester BE A SHARK survey in December. We are using the results of the parent, staff, and student surveys to guide us as we continue to work to shape the positive culture here at Santiago.
Be on the lookout for another end of semester survey in May!
As always, feel free to contact the BE A SHARK team at SHSBeAShark@cnusd.k12.ca.us
BE A SHARK: REWARD YOUR CHILD!
We are rewarding positive BE A SHARK behaviors - be sure to look for these same qualities from your students at home and let your student know you appreciate it when they:
S - Show Responsibility
H - Have Integrity
A - Achieve
R - Respect
K - Know yourself
At the end of the first quarter, over 3500 students have received Shark Bytes for displaying BE A SHARK behaviors. Shark Bytes were redeemed at the Shark Shop this week for free ice cream, a free tardy pass, a Shark lanyard, and even a free PROM ticket. Everyday, everywhere, we want students to continue to act out the BE A SHARK values. Continue to show up on time to class and be prepared to work - that's just one behavior that we expect from all Sharks. Keep it up!

Norco College Application Workshops
FAFSA
FAFSA free online application is priority deadline is due March 2nd. See Mrs. Nunes or your counselor for assistance. We will have FAFSA Giveaways for those seniors that apply by March 2nd priority deadline. Here are just a few we will be giving out: Free prom tickets, in-n-out gift cards, free tuxedo for prom, star bucks gift cards, and more!!! Bring your completed application confirmation page to Mrs. Nunes in the College & Career Center in the library.
The FAFSA application awards students free money and offers student loans for community college, trade school and 4 year colleges. Many colleges offer scholarships based on information students report in their application as well. This year we have two exciting changes in the FAFSA program. Those students bound for the community college can receive the Promise Grant, which will pay the first years tuition in its entirety regardless of how much parent income is. The Middle Class Grant allows students whose parents make $171,000 or less to qualify for state monies for the CSU and UC systems. In order to take advantage of these grants and others students are encouraged to complete their FAFSA application no later than March 2nd.
There is assistance available in the Santiago Career Center or Counseling Office. Just give us a call to set up an appointment or have your questions answered. We have several computers available and can help walk you through the process step by step. Although the FAFSA can be completed at any time, some grants have deadlines. One of the largest grants, which does not have to be paid back, is the Cal Grant. The priority deadline for the Cal Grant is March 2nd. If you want your student to be eligible for consideration for the Cal Grant be sure to get the application submitted prior to March 2nd.
Santiago has had some of the highest fafsa submission rates in the state. We are looking to continue this tradition so our students have as much opportunity for success in their post high school years as possible. Please take a moment prior to the March 2nd Cal Grant deadline to complete the FAFSA. It is free, takes about thirty minutes to complete and is the best way to get free money for your student’s future educational plans.
