PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
Happy New Year! We would like to welcome our AGCS students and families back for the second half of the school year. We look forward to a great start to 2020. We hope you enjoyed the time spent with your family over the holiday. As we enter January, we are as busy as ever!
As students and staff are settling back into their routine, we hope we can take advantage of their remaining excitement and energy to fuel classroom projects and new academic content. Please remember to check your child's school messenger regarding all the upcoming activities for the new year.
Every January we celebrate National School Choice Week (NSCW). This is an opportunity to thank families and staff who choose to be a part of the Avon Grove Charter School community. There is a need for effective education options for all children. This week is observed across the state in all choice schools (Charter, Private and Parochial schools). National School Choice Week will run the week of January 27th. Our theme this year is "I am". Students will be engaged in NSCW activities throughout the week. Please look for the flyer with daily activities.
The new year is a great opportunity to review our school procedures. Here are a few we want to highlight:
Morning Car Line: 8:05 am. Car line ends promptly at 8:25 am. At 8:25 am, you will need to park your car in the back parking lot and walk your child around to the front entrance and bring them in to the building. It is important for the car line staff to get into the building at 8:25 am so they can get to their classrooms and prepare for the students to arrive.
You may park your car in the front parking lot after the buses are finished dropping students off in the morning. All buses have generally arrived by 8:30 am - 8:35 am. If there are staff out in the front of the building in the bus drop-off area, that means that not all of the buses have arrived and you are not allowed to pull in the front of the school. Do not park in front of the building by the sidewalk or in a parking space if staff are out front. This is to ensure the safety of the students and staff members, as well as making sure the bus drop off runs smoothly. Please do not block the entry of the front parking lot when exiting car line and approaching Route 896. It is important to give the buses plenty of room to get into the parking lot. Afternoon car line starts at 2:45 pm and ends at 3:15 pm.
All school visitors must use the main office front doors. Please understand this is for the safety of the students. Only staff are permitted to use the back door located by the back parking lot. It is crucial that the teaching and learning environment is free from interruptions. Parents and guardians are asked not to accompany children to the classrooms. We expect teachers and students to be fully engaged in instruction by 8:30 am. Ensuring that your children are at school by 8:30 am makes for a smoother morning transition and easier for your children to be ready to learn in their classroom when instruction begins.
We appreciate all the ongoing support from families. You're the key component to our school community's success. I know 2020 is going to be a great year!
