Fulton Science Academy
ACCREDITED AND STEM CERTIFIED COLLEGE PREP GIFTED SCHOOL
THE WEEK AHEAD | November 16 - 20, 2020
Principal's Corner
Dear FSA Students and Parents,
Today at FSA we celebrated World Kindness Day. Students and faculty were invited to wear blue to show they stand for kindness, but I believe that our school and community shows this every day. We used to say that we were a small school with a big heart, and in many ways this is still true, but year after year our community has continued to grow. Growth comes from acceptance and kindness and vice versa. Here at FSA I see on a daily basis that we value all of our relationships and I believe that we truly are one big family. We pride ourselves on our diversity and inclusion and we are always trying to be a welcoming home for anyone who needs or wants to be a part of this family. Let's not think about being kind just on World Kindness day, but for every minute of every day of the year.
HAPPY DIWALI
This weekend members of the Hindu, Sikh, and Jain faiths will celebrate Diwali or Deepavali, the Festival of Lights. Deepavali is a Sanskrit word that translates to mean “a row of lights." It will be celebrated globally on Saturday, November 14th. The triumph of good over evil or darkness over the light will be celebrated with the lighting of decorative deeyas/candles, fireworks, an array of delicious foods - especially sweets, and even some exchange gifts. In some parts of the world, it will be celebrated for five days with various ceremonies and prayers. So wherever in the world, you hail from; South Asia, Africa, Europe, the United States, the Caribbean, Happy Diwali to you and your family!
Mickey Mouse Day
We are excited to announce another fun-filled day at FSA! Since we already consider our school the "Happiest School on Earth" because of our wonderful students & staff... We would like to gather together to celebrate Mickey Mouse's Birthday!
Mickey Mouse Day 2020: Mickey Mouse first appeared publicly in the short film "Steamboat Willie" on November 18, 1928, the day fans officially recognize as Mickey Mouse's Birthday. It must be fun to celebrate your birthday when you never age! Mickey reminds us of the magic of childhood - a time when dreams had wings, and our imagination made everything possible.
We love getting the opportunity to see this imagination and possibility in our FSA students each and every day!
Next Wednesday, November 18th, we will celebrate Mickey Mouse and the imagination he reminds us of. Our students are welcome to wear their favorite Mickey Mouse or Disney article of clothing to school. We hope our students never lose sight of Walt Disney's belief of "If you can dream it, you can do it."

Fall Fun Pumpkin Contest & Movie Night Wrap Up
WOW! A big thank you to all of the families who participated in our Family Fall Contest last weekend. We were so impressed with how creative our students were and we absolutely loved seeing all of the different pumpkin creations that our students came up with.
We had a great time showcasing these pumpkin creations and announcing the official winners during our Zoom Party on Sunday evening. Thanks to all who attended! It was wonderful to see so many smiling faces.
Check out some of the amazing creations below!
Two Science Olympians post stellar performances!
FSA’s Reach for the Stars students Nick A. and Gann D. placed second and third, respectively, in the October Science Olympiad My SO Showdown. This nationwide test is available to all middle school students, whether or not they participate on a Science Olympiad team. Students prepare for the 55 question online test using materials and webinars offered by Science Olympiad. Nick and Gann spent the month studying the properties and evolution of stars and galaxies including deep sky objects. In addition, these topics align with the Science Olympiad Reach for Stars event which Nick and Gann have been studying for the past two years under coach Pam Walsh.
“For FSA to have two students place in the top five nationally is really remarkable,” said Mrs. Walsh. “It’s no surprise that they’ve placed first in Reach for the Stars in both of our Science Olympiad tournaments this year. It really makes me regret that the National Tournament was cancelled last year. I would have loved to see how they would have placed among that field,” she said.
FSA Basketball Starts The Season Strong
The basketball season is underway with three teams of the five teams with an away match.
For the first time in FSA’s three year varsity history there are no seniors on the team, but that did not stop them from bring home the W. The team did hold on to a few of their starting five from last season and added a few new faces. Coaches Carson and Sid are ready to mould this fresh team and build the chemistry.
FSA's Varsity Boys team walked off the court with a win on Thursday night against Cumberland Christian Academy in Powder Springs, GA with a score of 65:37.
While the Navy and Middle School Girls team came up short yesterday, they are ready to give it their best through the rest of
the season. Middle school girl’s head coach, Coach Howard is “ready to run drills and work on a path that will show consistent improvement”. Make sure to follow the FSA athletics instagram for more updates regarding the basketball team.

November Gratitude Challenge
Happy November!
Will you join us for our November Gratitude Initiative? We challenge our mustangs to find ways to be positively present this upcoming month and show gratitude in a variety of ways. Can you complete this Gratitude Board by the end of the month? We can't wait to hear from our students about the ways they are showing thanks and gratitude throughout this month!
A RECAP | NED's Mindset Mission at FSA
Our elementary students enjoyed an elementary-wide assembly called NED’s Mindset Mission. Our on campus & virtual students joined all at once to learn from NED on his storytelling mission.
NED’s Mindset Mission is a positive behavior program. A world-class performer took our students on an interactive educational journey filled with storytelling, illusions, yo-yo tricks and humor. NED’s message and memorable friends inspire students, promote academic achievement, and support our school goals. Throughout the assembly students followed along as NED was led by clues and memorable characters. Throughout the performance, NED overcomes Mt. Everest's toughest obstacles, uncovered inner-treasures, learns the power of the word YET, and grows his brain. Students heard about how to activate their growth mindset to overcome social, emotional and academic challenges.
This show is being brought to us free of charge through their Pay-It-Forward campaign. Following the performance, students will have the opportunity to purchase NED collectable yoyo's. This cost will be donated back to NED's Mindset Mission to Pay-It-Forward to the next school. If you are interested in purchasing, please email csanchez@fultonscienceacademy.org for a copy of the order form and more details!
... And don't forget to ask your students what they learned from NED on his mindset mission!
